Hunters recommend something called a Termacell which will create a 15x15 ft field of mosquito repellent. Knowing that after all flooding events that the mosquitos are unrelentless,I used one at Peacock Saturday. It worked perfectly, and it is now a permenant item with my dive gear. Look at Walmart in the sporting goods area, well worth the money.

Is it electronic or chemical? Instant barrier, or does it take a while?

You place a repellant wafer in the device that is powered by a butane cartridge. You get 12 hours of time from one refill.
Is this it?

Yes. There are units of variable size, but this one is small and covers an area where one would donn/doff their gear. I placed it between my vehicle and buddy's vehicle, and we had a mosquito free zone.
Thanks for the pointer Kelly 8) I will have to get some before my next trip to mosquito country (North Florida).

I've heard of those, they're reported to be fantastic 8) Also heard of someone being told by a ranger that they were considered illegal to use inside a state park, believe it or not you cannot kill mosiqutos until they attack you, or so it was reported  If you get a chance ask one of the rangers at Peacok about this as I question the integrety of my source on this and thus have been very curious about it since hearing it 8)

According to the website I saw, the Thermacell doesn't have enough poison to kill the mosquitoes, but enough that they are irritated and leave the area.

The way it was put to me, and mind you what I said about the credibility of the one telling this to me, was that it was considered harassing the wildlife  Nothing to do with chemicals but apparently mosquitos deserve the same respect as the other denizens of the forest or so I was told :? Really would be interested in hearing an official take on that as I found it somewhat comical but highly plausible given this PC oriented world that we live in 8)
RATS, butane cartridge....can't take it to Mexico. But, I did see that it's carried at Bass Pro near me. This will be a must take on my next visit to NFL. I hate using DEET due to latex seals of course, but I also hate being eaten alive. No more doffing your gear at a zippy pace running for the Cutter with suspenders still wrapped around your ankles......

It looks like it's got separate butane cartridges....if you really want to take it with you, you could ship the butane cartridges down there and take the unit with you. Maybe you could even find somebody that is driving down between now and when you go and get them to take them down and leave them with Connie.
Maybe they even take standard butane cartridges...in which case you can get them in Mexico. I found out they carry these things at the Walgreens just down the street from me...I'm going to stop by today and pick one up and I'll let ya know whether or not it looks like a regular butane cartridge would work.

I think that Noah was a real a**hole. When he had the opportunity to rid all of humanity of misquitoborne ailments what does he do? Of course this is a tongue-in-cheek remark but I do believe we have more to consider than misquito 'rights'. Go misquito traps!

I couldn't agree more with you Angie. Just goes to show you how far those misinformed liberals can take things

Ever wonder why you have a hard time finding dive buddies?
