Huuza huuza huuza :!: :!:
I just got my Brand new 905
I have two questions? one do the boot come in widths?
I got size 10 and they fit front to back perfect but are a little tight side to side. I hate to get bigger since they will be too long.
Two by the instructions I would need to cut off almost all the rings on the neck seal I have a 17 inch neck so say half would be 8.5. What do you folks think? How many rings do I need to remove? I did three so far and it is still tight but I'm afraid to cut more without at least trying it in the water first.

boots do not come in widths.
If your neck seal is a little too tight, cut off 1/2 of a ring more and try it (wear it while sitting on your couch for a while and see if you need to cut off more). Only cut a little bit at a time... you can always take it off, but you can't put it back on
Great answer Jordan!
I over-trimmed mine, and now it leaks if I turn my head too far. Is there a way to fix that, short of replacing the whole neck seal? Like gluing on a band of the same material?
You could find out what exercise pro football linemen do to get their necks so thick, and do them ...

I remember you saying that at Dee and Dwains, thats why I was teasing you about it. I will be on vacation from April 29th, thru May 5 if you want to dive. I am aquiring a scooter next week, and getting my lessons on it, so we can scooter together.

I should have figured as much. Right now I am hoping my doc will release me to start diving again by the time we come down for the workshop the end of May. I seem to be progressing much faster than any of them expected, so hopefully I will be able to at least do some simple dives by then. The big thing they seem to be worried about is getting the muscles built back up enough to provide the stability around the joint so it will not be as easy to dislocate; right now there are a series of moves that I must avoid to keep the joint from coming apart. I am healing and rehabbing fast though, so the end of May is looking more plausible with each new day.

Good idea! Don't cut any rings until you get in the water, or leave it feeling a bit tight. I just had my seals replaced and Steve Gamble told me the neck seal would loosen up in the water, and it did. It seems that the air inflating the suit causes the neck to release, after seeming a bit tight if you're just trying the suit on dry. A little tight assures that you'll be dry on the dive. It's more of less one or the other.
Forrest, that's a great idea, if you've gone too far and you've got a loose fit. I bet Gamble would have some of that material, and it may be an easy fix!

Ok I spent three hours in the pool last night with an OW class and was completely dry and the neck was perfect. just a little snug which should loosen over time. But I did feel the foot squeeze and it became uncomfortable after awhile. Like I said before the boots fit perfectly front to back I'm just a 10 EE and the boots look to be 10 D. The Instructor said it might be that I spent a lot of time standing neck deep and might not squeeze as much in the dive position.
Also I got the Gators in large and notice that I have a lot of excess at the ankle but they are tight at the calf (I got calfs like popeye arms) Any sugesstions would be great.
Thanks

Yo Curt,
As far as the boots go, try them for a few real dives and then make a decision (you can go up a size of DR boot or you can talk to Gamble to see if he has any special, wide boots) -- either way, I'm guessing it'll cost you around $100
As far as the gaiters go, you may need to sell your current pair and go with the new-style DR gaiter that is much more adjustable (it is a one-size fits all)
Cheers, Jordan

Don't know how it will work with your 'Santa' thingy though- 8)

Do people still use gaiters? Why?
Just buy a drysuit that fits.

I'm not sure I need the gaiters I might be under the mistaken impression that gaiters are supposed to limit air movement to the boots. With my goofy looking legs there is not much loose matieral in the lower area of my suit. Boy this is a learning experience.. I'll say if you are thinking about getting a dry suit go to a demo day that allows you to get in the water. My first DS did not have boots and the seals were foldover neo.
It was basicaly a wetsuit with seals and air inlet. It was much easier, I just wish I didn't grow out of it.

Gaiters can be a help for those who buy stock suits do not quite fill out the stock dimensions. For folks such as myself who have two different sized legs, they can be a real blessing. I can just see a DS manufacturer's response if I was to attempt to get them to custom fit my legs with as much variance as exists between them. Cheaper and easier to just don the gaiters and go dive.

I think I'm going to go to gaiters also. I bought a used suit that is tall enough but it is really too big otherwise. When I dive in systems that don't change depth too much I'm fine, but when they do I end up with excess air in my legs and all the attendent problems that result. I can somewhat limit that problem by putting very little air in the suit, but then my mobility is pretty restricted and I can't reach my valves. I'd love to have a custom suit but don't have the thousands of dollars necessary to do that :(
So, for me, that's why I think I'll be wearing 'em.
You might be able to stretch the boots' width by getting them wet and putting a tin-can (green beans?) in them. When they dry, they might be a bit bigger?
