Hey guys/gals. DR came up with a fixed focus light that has the properties we like of our adjustable light heads (the beam is a very tight pinpoint but also offers the perfect amount of peripheral light for caving). Here's a little cut and paste from the press release:

Dive Rite Press Release
Date: March 16, 2006

The MR11 Sunspot HID’s are here!

Lake City, FL, USA. March 16, 2006

Dive Rite is proud to announce the arrival of the extremely robust new MR11 light head.
The LT6250MR11-SS has a tight focus 4.5 degree polished aluminum reflector that will never flake and is virtually unbreakable. The bulb is separate from the reflector adding increased durability while focusing a laser-like beam with good side lighting as well. The MR11 head features Dive Rite’s exclusive form-fitting hand mount, so it can be used virtually hands free.
The burn time is four hours with the Slimline canister and eight hours with the Wreck.

I just got my light back from DR yesterday. It had flooded last week, and along with the repair, it is said to include "upgrades" such as black cord, new glands, etc.

I don't suppose the upgrade includes the above ...

Hey Russel,

It wasn't available at that time. That will be possible starting now, though. Bad timing. I can arrange to get you into this new style, however. Pm sent

Jordan, any idea what the difference in cost will be? I just bought a new slimline with the old MR11 lighthead last week - also nice timing :D Any idea what my upgrade options are, and is it worth upgrading? More durable and more focused - is there a noticeable difference in brightness?

They're the same price.

Upgrade is possible (it's $125 and that'll give you your other bulb back too so it would be possible to go back if you needed to). Is it worth it? Well, it just changes your light pattern and is a personal preference thing. No real brightness difference but maybe a percieved brightness difference in clear water because it REALLY punches out there.

That "peripheral" light can make a big difference in percieved light output. Without it, you feel like you are almost totally in the dark. I have one light with a good beam, but no peripheral light. It took me several dives to get over the feeling that the walls were closing in. My newer light, with adjustable head, "feels" a whole lot better to dive with :-)

Ya Forrest, I noticed that one of your lights had a tight beam and cut nicely, and then the second light you pulled out was not as defined. I have to admit, I like the MR11 heads for that punch, but I'm partial to my Helios and my Miller #3 reflectors, for the reason you described. I can adjust it to a nice balance of extremes. Water visibility plays into the pattern I want on a given dive.

What is the new bulb? Obviously it is not a WA if the reflector is seperate.

Why can't it be a W-A bulb? The H10 is W-A w/o attached reflector.
