Someone on another board mentioned creating a wrist mount for a dive computer using bungee cord or surgical tubing by knotting the end of the cord and tying the instrument to the cord via fireline fishing line. Sounds like this may work well for my computers and compass. Has anyone tried this? I'm particularly interested in the knots used on the fireline.

Thanks,
Dave

This is a commerical site-

Tobin runs it and is great.

Really there is not much too it depending on the computer or the compass.
Depending on good you are with knots you can adjust the tightness or slack.

Please be careful with watch style instruments that use pins to hold things in place- pins can give away. Uwatec instruments (for example) were cut off and drilled then threaded with bungy. Leaving the pin connection and then using some of wrist material to us for drilling holes. Personal prefrence.
You might want to make sure you purchase replacement bands if you want to sell the unit in the future to Joe Public. Just a thought.

Hope this helps.
Andrew

I used stainless steel PVC coated fishing leads to replace standard watch type pins on Nitek Duo. You make little loops at the each (4) end using fishing cord clips. Before you start with ends make one clip between holes in instrument (if one end fails this will stop pin from falling out on either side). If corner holes would be ABCD, per one clip shoud be placed between A and B, C and D. Now take ellastic nylon cord, put it through loops connecting across an opposite corner C to B A to D (it kinda creates X, should one loop fail another will still hold instrument in a right position and it wont be flaped up by current). I also put tiny stainless still o-ring in the middle of this X (to hang doublesided bolt clip from a spool while making a jump). Such bungeed connection works better on drysuit seal than standard strap, it is easier to put on and it never dangles.

I would rather put a pic like i did with a walmart jumpreel but currently my Nitek Duo is in DiveRite either for "intense care" or burrial service.

Here is somethng Windknot did...
I simply knotted the ends of 1/8" bungee, crossed them from corner to corner then tied them down with 10-12 loops of high tensile (Firewire type) fishing line.

Word of warning...expect some sore fingers after tying that much line that tight...

I've dove this setup at least 12 times without problems....If anyone can offer suggestions as how to improve this design please step forward....my total cost into this rig is about $1.50...

Thanks for the info, Ary, I'll have to try that. Unfortunately, my DUO also died on me 2 days ago after a 15' dive in seawater. I was strapping in on yesterday along side my Oceanic Versa Pro (in preparation for a 130' wreck dive off Key Biscayne (the Lakeland) and noticed the screen was gibberish. Dove with just the Versa, luckily no backup was needed. The Duo was supposed to be my Versa backup.
