View Full Version : undergarment in Mexico

Hello NG,

I am new around here and I hope this is the right place to post.

What undergarment would be preferable fore some Mexican cave diving in around 25-27 C.
I am using a DUI TLS 350 dry suit, I am thinking about bringing my Weezle extreme, but I am afraid that it will kill me when walking to the cave entrance.

What about some normal cloth ( some pants and a sweat shirt ) is that warm enough?
I am planning to do around 1000min of bottom time in a week and it would be at pity to freeze your ass of most of the time.

Best regards

If 78 deg F water...

I'd recommend a lighter undergarment. 200g PolarTec should be all you'd need. Maybe bring a 200g vest for the end of the week when you might start getting cold.

You'll have heatstroke before you get to the water in that Weezle. If you're swimming I'd go with the lightest underwear you have......if you're going to scooter maybe a little heavier.

No matter what you wear you're going to start sweating as soon as you close that zipper and with wet cotton you'll get cold....even in 77 degree water. So stick with something that will wick moisture away from your skin.

In the end I started using a 5mm wetsuit to be comfortable in and out of the water.

5mm wetsuit, with 3mm underneath.
A drysuit will kill you on the more interesting dives, walking to the cenote.

Thank you; it seems that I have a serious problem, as my lightest undergarment is the weezle extreme.
( I am normally diving in water temps between 1C – 14C )
a wet suit is not an option because
1. I like to have redundant buoyancy
2. my turtlefins fit my rock boots, but not my wet socks
3. if I am cold in the red sea I will probably be cold here as well

what to do?

Go to a department store and buy polypropylene long johns. They will wick the sweat properly. Surely they will be warm enough in Mexico.

Sweat your ass off, and possibly have a heatstroke if you dive the Weezle Extreme. Otherswise, either dive a wetsuit(and put two wings together if you insist on redundant lift, especially since you will likely be diving double aluminum cylinders, which usually require no redundant lift - just a weight belt - if you are renting cylinders) or get a really lightweight pair of thermals such as Russell suggests.

I did 1400+ minutes in one week recently in a 6mm wetsuit and had no problem with the "cold"(since the water is VERY warm). I was neutral with nearly empty double aluminum 80's, so in the event I lost all buoyancy from my wing, I would have been able to make it out of any of the caves easily.

Same here, neutral with doubles.
My longest dive in 5mm was over 3 hours, not cold.
I am just back from the Red Sea and would not consider a wet suit there, but Mexico is way warmer.
