We don't have a 'sticky'... We use that feature for the black arrow.. and call it 'mourning'.
Sure would be a waste to lose this topic... This whole topic could be moved, and maybe more appropriate, in the Buddies section maybe... especially since posts in this section fall off after a period of time...

Okay, this thread is over two years old, so I went back over the posts to see what I had written. I never posted! So here goes:
Name: Russell Edge.
Married?: Nope, never. My last girlfriend said it's because I'm lazy, selfish, and immature.
Family: My mother is 76 and still an active open-water diver. My father died when I was in high school. I have a brother that I haven't seen in nine years; he has no desire to travel to Georgia, and I have even less desire to go to Texas. Plus, I have a beautiful 10-month-old Doberman Pinscher, Ginnie.
1 hobby other than cave diving: Kitesurfing.
Occupation: In addition to part-time jobs as regulator technician at two local dive shops and media specialist at my church, I currently teach high school history. Although I'm looking into getting certified in Special Education.
Edit: It's been called to my attention I didn't mention my favorite cave. I figured Jackson Blue went without saying.

And Mom, who worries about her crazy daughter "going in them caves and getting eaten by a monster". She's seen "The Cave". :smt040
Hobby other than cavediving: Caving, :smt063 Spearfishing, annoying people on CDF, researching caves to climb in and/or dive.
Occupation: Computer geek, and shiny new OW instructor.
Favorite Cave: JB! Oh wait, LR! Um, well, the Nest! But, I mean, Guy James! Oh hell, who am I fooliing...my favorite cave is any place with rocks under water that I can wiggle my fat butt into!

My oldest Daughter and I were first certified OW June '05 when she was 10. I did AOW in December '05, Cavern/Intro in August '06, Apprentice in September '07 and Full Cave in November '07.
Much of my work since I graduated from Lehigh University in '93 has been in water resources and I am fascinated to be swimming through the aquifer that I have been designing around. I don't really care which cave I'm in, I have just found that cave diving gives me something to do while underwater. When I describe it to non-divers and they say "but isn't it just a bunch of wet rocks?", I compare it to a hike in the woods "it's just a bunch of trees" the enjoyment is just doing it.

Hello all,
I would like to introduce myself before participating actively
(mostly reading in the beginning, got a lot to catch up :yawinkle:).
My name is Derk and I come from the Netherlands.
I passed the IANTD Cavern course in 2007 (France) and GUE Cave-1 in 2008 (Mexico).
Trip report of the GUE Cave-1 course will be presented soon (with some very nice pictures)...
I really like this forum and it's got some good reading and learning material.
Thanks for sharing.
With very kind regards,
Derk

Hi Everyone! My name is Jason Dostal and I'm a caveaholic.
Yep, I'm married. Met my wife playing paintball - on opposite tournament teams. She thought I was an arrogant ass. Some days she still thinks that. Got to know her diving...we were at the local dive sites at the same time.
Little bit of family here and there. An aunt/uncle w/ 3 cousins. A half sister. Lots of step family.
Outside of cave diving I do a lot of backpacking and a ton of diving. I'm an avid mountain biker as well.
I fund the cave diving by being a Systems Architect at a large midwestern bank designing any and all compuer systems.
My favorite cave dive is usually whatever one I'm currently doing :) But if I had to pick a favorite...man...so tough. I've fell in love with so many already....Ginnie was my first so that will always hold a special place in my heart even though I don't dive it anymore but if I have to pick..I'd say Twin Cave on the pond. I don't know why but that cave just calls to me. I love, love, love that cave. Love going up and down the faults, love the low tunnels in the back. It is just a sweet little place.

Name: Bob Bailey
Married?: Twice ... also divorced twice. I guess some things just aren't meant to be.
Family?: Not really, I have three brothers and a sister I rarely ever see (they're on the east coast, I'm in Seattle). No offspring.
1 hobby other then cavediving: Well, since I'm new to cave diving I can't really call it a hobby yet. It's just another form of diving. And since diving pretty much dominates my life, that's my hobby. On those rare occasions when I'm not underwater I enjoy getting off to the mountains for hiking or skiing.
Occupation: Manual laborer (technical writer)
Favorite Cave to dive: I've only so far visited three ... Ginnie, Peacock and Little River. Haven't had time to develop a favorite yet.
If any of y'all are gonna be in the vicinity of those three systems during the week of Nov. 7 to 15 I'd enjoy putting a face to a name. I'll be staying at the Outpost.

not a big cave diver, I usually use them to rinse gear off coming back from the wrecks, which where my real interests are. Did it mainly to appease my dive buddy who wanted me to come with him. It's fun, and it's growing on me, but I'd much rather be exploring a wreck than a cave....

Other hobby is competitive pistol shooting. The sport is IDPA and I'm a Master class shooter in the .45 ACP division.
Occupation is CTO of a software company my brother and I own. My formal education is in mechanical engineering. Once upon a time I was a commercial diver in the Gulf Of Mexico.
Completed my full cave cert in 88, but been out of the sport for a long time. So I'm really starting my 2nd cave diving career. Favorite cave would have to be the Devil's ear/eye system, but there are others up there near the top.

Other than diving, I like motorcycle 'Adventure Riding', which is basically taking long motorcycle trips on & off road and camping all combined together. I did a month-long, 7,000 mile trip over the summer. I blogged about it
After being in sales for most of my career, I got laid off last year and decided to go back to school to be a Registered Nurse. I'm halfway there now.
I have been full-cave since 2006, but I recently took a 2-year break and did a lot of riding in my free time. Now I'm back to diving.
My favorite caves are the ones in Mexico, but I really like Peacock and Madison as well.

I've been lurking for some time and have finally decided it was time - for my first post. I've been full cave since May of this year. I took the long road with many dives between each level of training. I am fortunate to have two mentors that helped me along this journey. After each level of training we would dive and they would reenforce the skills I had learned. Never did they push me to dive beyond my training and I knew better than to suggest it. So, after nearly two years of training and diving, I got my full cave. I don't get to dive as much as I would like, I average about five dives a month. Its just enough to keep me happy and not so much as to disrupt the homestead. My wife does not dive but understands my addiction. I am retired Navy and still work for the DON at NAS Pensacola. Life is good as long as I get my five in each month.
