Eagles Nest?

Does anyone know if the roads are open to Eagles Nest and what the conditions are? I was thinking about making a trip this weekend. It's a bummer to see locked gates.

I was there 3 weekends ago and the roads are as good as I have ever seen them. There has been gravel added to the worst portions of the road in many areas. The rangers are really doing a great job on this and there are stock piles of more gravel and culverts to be placed in the ongoing efforts.
Although I have 4WD I only used 2WD.

How was the visibility?

The roads are impassable(yes, even in your truck) and the visibility in the cave is less than a foot. You need to wait another weekend so that I'll be home and can go with you guys. The roads will be perfect and the vis unrestricted by then. :-D

Vis was about the best I have seen in the basin but 50-60 ft in the cave.
It was my dive buddy's 1st time so our plan was to stay in the "Main Ballroom. We looked at both the downstream and up stream passage but stayed with our plan. I would expect 50-60 ft vis would be fine once you were in the passage (other than the Superroom). Upstream was much better than downstream.
I think that some cooler nights just prior to my visit caused the basin to "turn over". Conditions may be much better or worse now.
