View Full Version : New posts disappearing

The past two days I've noticed that when I first log on all of the new posts show up, but as soon as I click on the first post the indicators disappear. The posts are still there but the arrows and what have you to show that they are new/unread are gone. This just started yesterday morning, any ideas what is causing it?

Are you logged in before you see all the red arrows or do you log in after?

I'm logged in. I just noticed the return of the arrows so I will see if they stay on.

Everything seems to be working properly once again. Thanks, was it anything or just my imagination?

I just noticed it also, if I read 1 thread then all the red arrows are gone from the other new post. No matter wich section I am in weather it is this or the main forum or gear exchange.

I have to read the date of the post and the time to notice what is new or not instead of a red arrow.

Any sugestions, is it my side or the (dark side of the cave)?

It has to be some internal glitch as mine is working as it should now.

added: At least it was working until I made this last post

The red arrow is supposed to show you haven't been in a Topic section since the last post. Once in it, and backed out, a refresh (or log in again later) is supposed to 'grey out' the arrow. If it works differently, then the grimlins are at work on your computer, the web server, or both... :smt102

Until a couple of days ago it was showing me unread posts until I actually opened the threads. Now for some reason as soon as I open the first thread, everything disappears and shows as having been read. I'm having to look at which sections have new posts and then look at the date/time of the last post to find what I haven't read yet. It did go away briefly yesterday afternoon but is back to doing it again. Very frustrating, fix it or I'll drive down and beat you about your head with my cane of justice

Sounds like a webmaster issue to me. You hear that Marbry? :)

It could be a cookie issue your computer is having. Smack it, curse it, and see if that helps (you at least). If it is your computer's security level, firewall, or that new service pack that MS released, 'I dunno'...yet... However, you can rest assured that I and I'm sure Marbry the webmaster, will stay up late, continuing our efforts to resolve this for you DeWayne!

Yeah, you're just afraid of getting smacked up side the head by the cane of justice

You did notice that I am not the only one with this problem, so hopefully it's not me, although that can never be ruled out. Offer some suggetions for my end and I'll give them a try when I have time.

Assuming first that you are using IE, you might ensure that you have the following enabled:

Tools >> Internet Options >> Security >> Internet Zone >> Custom Level >> Miscellaneous --> Userdata Persistence

This produced an effect for me that sounded similar to what you described.

I'm also noticing the problem. I like how TJ passes the buck to Marbry when he was threatened with a cane!

Well, I'll give you the standard 'Development was unable to duplicate your issue with the provided information.'

Are either of you running monitoring, pop-up blocker or other software that might be cleaning that out?

I am running monitoring software and a pop-up blocker, but not any software that should be clearing it out. It isn't a real big problem for me, because it’s easy to find the new posts.

I'm running a pop-up blocker but everything was working fine initially and I have not changed anything on my end. I have my blocker set to allow pop-ups here.

Nothing changed on my end but a couple days ago the Red Arrows all disappeared for me as well. Now I have to read all the post dates to see if there is anything postd since I last visited.

On the Upper left of the main forum, you will find View posts since last visit. give that a try.

I think my problem was in the pop up blocker after all  . Went in and reset everything today and now all is working fine once more  No thanks to TJ so he still gets a whack up side the head from the cane of justice next time I see him(I'll learn that boy to buy a Ford  )

Chip, you may try that. It could be the issue with the software not properly recognizing the domain of the cookie or user data, and disallowing access to the site. This would prevent it from retrieving info on what you had viewed or not.

Marbry, I will see if it works. Thanks for the update DeWayne.

The administrators at work have my computer locked down, so I might not be able to disable the popup blocker.

The popup blocker at home was released in SP2. I have to see if I can modify the options.

I hope TJ is having a nice day in Lantana. He's hoping for the perfect picture!

Ditto. I have had the same problem for a few days now

Try closing all instances of explorer, bring up a fresh instance, then goto Tools >> Internet Opitions >> Delete Cookies and Delete Files (make sure to check 'Delete all offline content'.

You will have to wait then until some new posts show up, but go to the forum then and see if you start seeing the new post indicators again.

I checked the popup blockers and they are very easy to disable. I haven’t had a problem and everything has been updating for the last week (popup blockers are still enabled).

I say run mozilla and have it work great....

Maybe it's just me; but for the last couple of days, that never seems to list anything. Perhaps there is something tweaked that makes it think I logged in logged out and logged in again?

Is anyone else having problems with "View posts since last visit"?

Yes.

It appears there's some kind of database inconsistency - it comes up blank for me too, even though I have "arrows" on the top level page.
