...having found that I CAN wear Back-mount dub LP85's (Thanks, Jean!) without falling on my arse and doing a passable imitation of a dying roach, the PROCESS begins...

Givens:

Dive Wet, not Dry
Max depth planned 110 FFW
Wreck canister
frame underheight for my weight
ally backplate

which DR wing? Classic, Rec, other?
other manufacturers??

I am willing to lend you both my Classic and Rec wings and you can put a few dives on them both and then you can get whatever you want. Both would work.....I like the Classic because it has a lil bit more lift. If you go with the Rec you might be a little heavy if you have a stage bottle and a steel deco bottle, especially diving wet.

I see the point re the larger wing for the future...I was a tad concerned about the BACK of the Classic taco-ing a bit as 85's are shorter in length...

Thanks for the OFFER! May just take you up on it!

Hey Norm I dive a Rec wing and I dive a rec. canister and or a slimline a set of doubles 85 fabers and I can also do a Al 80 stage for a buddy bottle and have no problem getting lift and I have dove ginnie and little river this way so just letting you know. But again I am a fat arse so I might have a little more lift in my fat arse LOL. But I dive a 7mm semi dry also.

Jammer,

Thanks!

I dive wet often in a 7mm suit with 104s and a classic wing. This provides plenty of lift with the doubles and with a couple of 80s. It is boarderline with 104s and a pair steel bottles. I have used other wings from 44lb lift to just under 100, and the classis seems to provide the most stable ballanced bouyancy of any, whether I am wearing 104s or a set of old 72s.

I dive a Halycon wing on a DR backplate, it works really well for me
but im sure anything else with sufficent volume will work too, most wings are almost identical to each other

Not hardly. There are small wings, medium wings, large wings, wings without inner bladders, wings with inner bladders, wings with double bladders, wings with bungies, wings without bungies...

I have dived about eight different styles, and although it goes against current convention, I have settled on a large bungied wing for backmounted doubles. It has enough lift for big doubles and two steel deco bottles, but the bungies keep it small when diving small doubles.

Oh, and anybody that wants to tell me I'm going to kill myself and everybody I dive with, go tell somebody else.

Russell,

Well put...indeed, that is the reason for my initial query...

My concern is that larger styles (DR Classic por exemplo) are LONGER, and I am concerned re a Taco-effect past the butt end of the dub 85's...is this the reason you bungie on smaller cylinders??

PS: you forgot Wings with a DOG...ask Paul McCartney...

I dive HP80s, a much shorter tank, without issues with a DR and a Halcyon 55.

If Jean's setup worked for you, why not just use the wings that she uses? I think you are over analyzing. You really won't know the pros and cons until you try it yourself for a bunch of dives. By then the manufacturers will have a new/old feature du jour and you'll be right back where you started...

Peter,

Your point re Jean's rig is well taken (and she has indeed graciously offered to let me take a dip)...However, all I did last weekend was WEAR the rig for a short Parade March above water to see if I could "shoulder" the load Topside...

Re "over analyzing"...I am suprised that be now, no one has translated the (Latin) Family Motto in my sig...

Point regarding "the next new thing" WELL TAKEN!! :)

oh, it always seemed that if you took two different BC's of the same lift they are almost identical in the water, at least in m,y experience (which isnt that much lol)
