View Full Version : how come no one updates the cave conditions page?
Im sure people are diving. Whats the deal?
Im sure people are diving. Whats the deal?
I took over the "Cave Conditions Updater" position on Friday June 24th and I have only received two reports. They both came on Tuesday July 5th in the afternoon. One was for Alachua Sink and the other was for Hart Black Lagoon. I'm going to update both of these now.

Well it is a nice thing to see updates posted on here but it is always best to call the dive shops around area diving before going. I know they hear all the good and the bad on every location.

John, what are the current conditions at Cherokee?
I updated the last two Cave Condition Reports, but they were from 5/29/05 and 5/30/05. Things have changed since then, with all the rain that we had in June.
I'm looking at Conditions page:
-Is there a cave in Fanning spr? Are springs listed there because cave diving alowed, because of cave exists or because the dive site is just popular? I could not find the cave most close to my home in that list :-)
- springs conditions report is a moderated feature, maybe that is why it is not updated timely. Should it be more interactive i'm sure updates will follow it.

Celia,
Indeed there are CAVES at LB...I was diving the lower portions in the '80's, and many more have dived the upper portions before and since...
When I dove it, it was "open land"; it went private, then County, then the State JUST bought it and re-opened it. Currently closed to Diving, but ONLY until the River water recedes and clear water flows again...

IMHO, the lower portions are among the BEST sites for Cavern/Intro Cave enthusiasts...

Very cool, thank you for the info.
Now I have to wait for the river and get time...
Dive safe,
Celia

I see it described as an Open Water site, but I haven’t been to Fanning Springs.

Send me an e-mail if you want me to add it to the list.
Are springs listed there because cave diving allowed, because of cave exists or because the dive site is just popular?
In some case all three of your possibilities apply, but I believe mostly because cave and / or cavern diving is allowed.
The main reason for the Cave Conditions page is to view updated cave conditions.
springs conditions report is a moderated feature, maybe that is why it is not updated timely. Should it be more interactive I’m sure updates will follow it.
Good point about it not being very interactive, but currently it’s not active at all!
Actually, the Cave Conditions are updated when reports are submitted on the Cave Conditions link. More conditions would be current, if more people submitted reports. Yes, I’m also guilty! I have only seen two reports submitted so far! I will also scan the Main CDF Forum for current updates, but that hasn’t happened for some time and conditions constantly change.
Bottom line: The best way to keep the Cave Conditions updated is to submit a current Cave Conditions report.

Norm
Norm ... What we really need is in water reports, but I will see if I can use them. Thanks!

What I know about cave conditions for the last week. Ginnie=perfect, Hart Springs, crystal clear but a long hike through swamp water to get to the sink. Alachua is clear in the cave, near zero vis in the cavern, nasty deco. Cathedral system is tannic, Cow was clear, low flow. Bonnet is good for now but I would ask about access before planning a dive there. That's all I know, Cindy :)
Thanks Cindy! Can you please provide dates for the conditions? :)

Cow 7/6
Alachua 7/2
Hart 7/3
Cathedral 7/4
Bonnett 7/6 didn't dive but the sink was clear
I posted updates for 10 different systems in the past 24 hours. Thanks to everyone who provided condition reports! :) OK, now for those photos.
