I'll be coming down in the early part of February and was wondering what would be the best Airport to fly into from NYC (Orlando is a LONG way). I was planning on driving down, but am now weighing my options as I have no one to share the driving with....
I was also planning on staying at the Ponce DeLeon Motor Lodge as well, if anyone wants to weigh in....

Early last month at Jackson Blue there was a fellow diver from New Jersey. He flies into Jacksonville, drives to JB dives then works his way back east to the Ft. White/High Springs area dives there. Then back to Jacksonville for the flight home.

You missed the closest one :-)

I don't think any local airport has commercial flights from NYC.

How about Pensacola International? Probably about a 2 hour drive to Marianna.

Every time I have flown in and out of JAX, it has been quick and painless.

I have a house in Panama City Beach, Fl. but I am stuck working in Stamford, Ct. at the time. I fly in from the NYC area almost monthly. I use the Panama City airport (Northwest Florida Regional Airport - ECP). No direct flights from NYC to ECP. The Panama City airport is only serviced by Southwest and Delta. I have flown Southwest out of Laquardia as well as Delta out of White Plains. I have seen Delta tickets going out of JFK also. From the Panama City airport to Edd's it will be about an hour drive. Hope this helps.

I used to go to Marianna a lot from NJ. Easiest with most options is TLH. 1 hour and 15 minutes with ne'er traffic and lots of car rentals.

I go JFK to jax. Under three hour drive and usually the cheapest tickets. I'm going down the first week of feb and its costing me $160 roundtrip.

Auto train..... you will drive from Orlando but the train will bring, you, your vehicle with all of your dive gear and all your other stuff 900miles of the way. I take it going to and from NJ alone. Best way to go and not much more expensive than gas and tolls

Huh? More like 240.
TLH or ECP. Lately TLH has had the most reasonable fares to NYC area. I usually fly into EWR. You can also check Southwest PHL to TLH but SW has been a little pricey lately.

I always fly from LGA or JFK, IMO those are the two most convenient airports to travel, with JFK well ahead of LGA.
JetBlue gets you to Jax (free checked bag), Southwest gets you to Panama City (2 free checked bags) and Delta can do either, but usually seems more pricey when you factor in checked baggage.

Be sure to check on the temporary draining of the Mill Pond to see how that will affect your dive plans.

I frequently travel from New York to Marianna and have tried all the airports. Jacksonville is cheap and you can usually get a direct flight, but there's that three hour drive and don't forget the time change--that usually makes it less than convenient on the way home. Obviously, you have to rent a car.
Tallahassee . . . I believe you're stuck with Delta and Continental, and they both charge for every bag.
Panama City -- it's a little over an hour drive, it's in the same timezone, and you can fly Southwest and get two bags up to 50 pounds free. No brainer.
Yup, they are lowering the Mill pond 2-3 feet starting the Jan 23rd I think it is and it is to be lowering for 1 week and hten the time for it to fill up some. It wont be to bad for JB but the rest will be very hard to get to even in a boat that early.
