Just wondering if any one has the exact directions to HELL BELLS. We normally stay in the Tulum. While we were their last wek we received two differant set of directions which did not make sense when looking at the map, so we did not go.

Ask Rich (from Xibalba) he has been there or HP (go sidemount), we did guided dives with him and it was great overthere.
And a very late answer to your mail (sorry): Landhaus Willingen.

I almost forgot to mention this: with HP: not only great dives, we also had a marvelous time. It was a great day with him.

It is hardly surprising that very few people would share the directions to a such a unique and fragile place without being familiar / comfortable with the skills of the person that asks. A few of the largest "bells" formation are already on the bottom because of people diving beyond their skill level. The increased diver traffic has also resulted in much thicker layer of hydrogen sulfide, which could have further negative impact the formations. IMHO such a location should only be accessible with scientific permit, but then again - great scientists do not necessarily make great divers.

Please do not take this as an insult - I am not implying anything about your skills as I don't know you. If the ones that do seem reluctant may be you should reconsider going there in the first place.

Hello from the Netherlands,
While I'm writing about Hells bells, its snowing outside and we are planning to make an ice dive this weekend.
Last summer we visited Hells bells. We dived there with HP. Normally he is nice funny and outgoing person. When we arrived there, he was surprised and a little bit annoyed and very sad. Why???
The owner decided to create a sort of playgrond for the quadvisitors. Meaning building walls and jumping platforms for the tourists to jump in. From his viewpoint of course a good decision, because it's interesting for the tourist. The owner and the tourists dont have any idea what kind of beautiful interessting formation are down there.
While jumping into the water the tourists also deposit sand and leaves and other kinds of vegetation in the water.
We think this is also a reason why the hydrogen sulfate layer is getting thicker.

Enjoy the nice weather, the sun and the blue sky, because overhere its grey and freezing cold and everybody has the icescating fever.
