I know on the knife forum they have a feedback system in place for buying and selling items. If an individual buying an item has no feedback and the seller has great feedback the buyer is expected to pay first, and vise verse. It seems we just use post count here to determine a members reputation.
When a transaction goes smoothly feedback is left by both partners. May not be something the mods want to get into but just an idea. I know we move some high dollar items on this site.

I’m not saying I would be for or against such a feedback system. But I can tell you in my experience coming from aviation circles that the cave diving community is similar in generosity. And in my dealings they have been pretty gracious and helpful. I can’t say that for the scuba community at large.
Yeah there’s squabbles about gear configuration, “zero to hero” training, etc. But in the end we love our passion and enjoy the company of those who share the same. I guess that’s why we don’t see much dishonest dealings within our community. Or am I wrong? I don’t think I am. And though I’m not sure what it is, I am happy to be a part of it.

There's nothing controversial about zero to hero training, sidemount configuration or one piece harnesses so I'm confused by the reference... :p
I agree I have found the cave community to be generally upstanding. And practically speaking it's too small a place to make it worth anyone's while to screw someone on an on-line purchase if they intend to stay in cave diving.
For high dollar transactions I use a cash transaction through PayPal and cover the fees myself. It's cheap insurance and means more than "feedback" or "post count" anyway.

On another board I mod we have a system like that. Some tried to abuse it and give bad trader ratings to people they never bought anything from. Now any bad trader rating sends an email to all staff and we review it and investigate it before it gets posted.
It works great.
On a note of dealing with people on this board. I had a transaction with Capt Tyler. Great guy to deal with. Everything went very smooth.
