Someone asked me about cave divers and Amateur Radio. Are there enough hams here to warrant a Ham's Fourm?

Hmmm, it occurs to me how that term can be skewed :-)

Ok, that is 4. Some of us seem inactive :(

I think we need at least 10 to have a viable forum.

Dwain,
I could be counted but I never got around to take the test. My dad was a Ham and I've got all his old gear. Let see,,a handheld 2 m, two car 2 meters, a base 2 meter and a 10 m base. Let me know if your interested. in replaceing some of your lost gear or anyone else if interested. I could use some money for diving...

Old WB2KPD but long expired, how do I get it back? Do I have to go to the dingey FCC office in NYC? Is the old guy that was there in '62 still there? Do I have to remember Morse Code to play on the VHf/UHF repeaters? So many questions - I need a forum

If you want to get your license renewded do what i did. If you live anywhere near a decent sized city( say 70,000 or more) contact the local ham radio club. The FCC has turned over all exams and licenseing to volunteers. Im sure they will have license examiners that can give you the scoop. Your 911 center may have contact info as hams are used during emergencys. joe boone

If you got your license in 62, you could probably study for a night and pass the tech test any weekend at any hamfest. Tech class now has full priveleges above 50Mhz, and max morse speed is 5 WPM for HF privileges. Real easy to get on the air now....

Thanks Drew, I'm inspired. I'l bet I can still do better thasn 5 WPM, but if there are full priveleges above 50 Mhz for no code, I'll do it ASAP. My old call sign is not assigned, so it looks like maybe I can have it back. do they still ask questions about vacuum tube oscillator and amplifier diagrams? LOL
I'm not gonna hafta learn about transittersand IC's, will I?

Forrest,

I know you are (shortly) on your way to the NSS con, but consider this when you get back...

Hams seem to have MANY parallel hobbies...I'm betting that if you added Flying and (Topwater) Photography, you could EASILY have enough for a HAMS & More Forum...

Any Model Railroaders out there?

Ah, Jammer, my Friend...

While Hams don't seem to have a particular favorite & unifying form of BBQ, I MUST point out that in order to get your initial Tech Ticket, you must first be able to recite the address and GPS coordinates of the 3 closest "We Be Doughnuts & Coffee" parlors...

Fellow Hams, am I right?? After ALL, what IS Field Day without Krispy Creme??
