Next weekend (November 11th-13th), my family is planning to go camping. See my signature line, it's a special occasion. I walked for hours at Suwannee River State Park last weekend and LOVED it. Sadly, their campsites are all booked. I still want to take the family to that park during the day, but alas, we won't get to camp there. So I need your help!

What campground in that area (between there and Lake City) would you recommend?

Requirements are 1) NOT a concrete pad covered RV heaven. We're tent campers looking to get away from diesel fumes and all night parties. 2) Pets allowed. 3) Bathrooms/showers somewhere in the area

Thanks for any pointers you can give me!

Shirley, keep trying the state park, even though they're sold out now - people always tend to cancel out, you just have to be quick enough to snipe it when a spot opens.

386-294-2510 Suwannee River Rendezvous Resort & Campground at Convict Springs. We've tent camped there four times. Clean, cheap, and dog friendly. Only a couple of miles to Luraville, on the Suwannee River.

Suwannee River Rendezvous Resort & Campground at Convict Springs.

Either that or Lafayette Blue Springs State Park.

Either that or Lafayette Blue Springs State Park.

Those work, but I'm looking for something closer to Lake City and the interstate, to accommodate family members coming from multiple points on the map.

Thanks for the pointers :)

Sooo close! They allow pets only when there's not a music festival going...and yep, there is one that weekend, lol.

Thanks all! Still hitting "refresh" on the state park reservation page :)

How about one of the river camps (maybe Woods Ferry) on the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail? They do have screened shelters with concrete floors covered by a roof but you could probably still pitch a tent. Also, they have a covered picnic shelter, rest rooms, showers, fire pit as I remember. see http://www.floridastateparks.org/wilderness/Maps.cfm

Oops, these are for paddlers only. have you tried the music park - may be nosier than you want though.

+1 for Gibson Park. It's just down river of the Alapaha Rise.

Did not camp there but visited last Spring; appeared to be neat, clean and several construction projects/improvements going on. Some very noce sites overlooking the Suwannee.

Thanks, John, and thanks for your very generous offer as well. I really enjoyed my stay at your cottage last weekend. I will be back! :)
