View Full Version : Peacock hours - help, Janet?
A while back a discussion was centered on the Peacock rule that divers had to be out of the water by 5:00pm. It was mentioned that this rule makes sense in the winter when it gets dark at 6:00, but not in the summer when it doesn't get dark until almost 9:00.
Was this ever looked at? A friend and I want to drive down from Georgia on Friday to do the Mile Run traverse, but we're afraid we'll get beat up by Janet if the 5:00 rule is still in effect and we're a few minutes late.
Do we need to change our plans?

Damn Spurs - oh well.
Back on subject- AFAIK you need to be out of the water by 5.

Yes the time is 5 PM to be out of the water-however I've not beaten anyone up YET! There is a first time for everything.

I was told that 5pm is a state park rule. It is now being enforced at PSSP.
It seems like a bogus rule, and it would be nice to take it up with the park system.. it seems like 1 - 1.5 hours prior to closing and/or sunset would be a better rule. What is the point anyway?
Is this something to take up with the CDS or NACD? Maybe PADI would have influence for various OW sites?

Well lets just be thankful we have a place like peacock to dive if 5pm is not good enough then there is no time limit at Cow,or Telford and you can dive your ass off and stay as long as you want and start as late as you want so there is options there and telford and Cow are both very close. I have not yet seen Janet beat anyones ass but she is brewing up a good one LOL. It seems the DIR people spent to much $$$$$$ on there bottom timers and don't have or believe in carrying a watch or maybe they just don't give a Sh#t maybe is the latter of the two I would think its the latter.

Gee Jammer, this was a pretty productive post. Maybe you think that the "DIR" guys are always diving PI-III after hours. Mayhaps you have some proof versus just casting aspersions. Have yet to see any of their cave instructors there in twenty trips. I would bet that Janet has seen more non "DIR" divers diving after hours, as I have.

Well I am sorry to have offended you but I was just playfully picking at a DIR guy that I know that I am friends with and he knows who he is and it was for him and I was just picking at him and yes I have seen more than just DIR guys come out late. But as for your last twenty trips I guess you missed memorial day weekend HUH? well there were some divers that were late coming out about 6:10pm as I remember on my watch. But it was all in fun ribbing a friend not for anyone to blow it up into something it wasn't. It was just a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!! It was Just a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not mean to offend anyone at all I like to cut up and rib certain friends and I guess sometimes some people can read it and think the wrong thing but I was directing it towards a friend and he does not care he just dives and when he is done he is done so I was directing it towards him not you or DIR in anyway. I was just saying if 5pm is not good for you there is other places you can dive that's all.

Given your comments about madison a while back Jammer, I was happy to see that you have the right attitude now. Enjoy what we have regardless of the rules imposed, it could be worse. I'll just sit here and grin about the DIR comments

My issue isn't about getting out of the park late, or about not having other places to go. There are MANY florida state parks where you can dive. It seems that a correction to an out-of-tune rule would benefit a lot of people, including people diving Peacock and Manatee.
I have never had a problem with the rangers at Peacock, and do not begrudge them for the change. When I go I try to be a gracious guest and follow their rules. I know that the time limit is set at a higher level of management than the Peacock rangers, and it would be nice to get with those people to discuss the purpose of the limit and adjust it to do it's job without limiting our access more than necessary.
