Several of us had the chance to dive the Tulum area last week for three days. We used the ProTec Dive Center in Tulum, and they were great. Kim Davidsson guided us on a few dives, helped with some transporation, and assisted us with some non-guided dives.
The shop was nice. They had a nice storage area complete with rinse tanks, an exposure protection storage/drying area, and storage lockers. Lockers had electricity so you could charge lights. There was no need to take any gear back to your hotel. Also, there were seperate rooms for training, retail, an air station, and rebreathers.
If you need a dive shop in the Tulum area, I'd recommend KIm and ProTec Dive Center.
We stayed at the Hotel Latina, a small 8 room hotel one street east of the Main Street. It was small but very clean and secure. I'd stay there again.
This sounds more like an ad then a dive report.

People post asking for recommendations all the time. Someone posts a good experience and they get ragged on?

This isn't actually a dive report, so I moved it to Travel Advisor.

Thanks Forrest - still getting acclimated to reality which starts in about 5 minutes.
I ran into Kim on our last trip down there, and chatted with him for a while. He was very excited about the new facility. I liked him a lot.
They're offering some really good promotional deals for their "grand opening" -- IIRC, Nitrox same cost as air, and half off on guiding.

FWIW, we had some nice dives at Chan Hol, just south of Tulum, and Calimbra(sp?) Cenote(part of the Sac Actun system) At Chan Hol, we saw two other divers and at Calimbra, we saw none.

Shuuush..
don't let all the good secrets out
then everyone will want Kim and the great dive sites
There are some things in life worth hoarding
the refried beans and cloves of garlic, do increase the need for added weights though
