Marianna was the choice last time due to all the hurricanes/flooding but its an excelent choice no matter what with 24 hour cave access , cheap camping , Edds' Cave Adventurers sponsering all the beer you can puke plus the obligatory WKPP vs. WKRP rumble is always bloody satisfying. Now if someone can notify SID , his burlesque show is the icing on the cake. Take care all. :-D

Actually that would be thAT transexual herbivore that said no chair person, I was the one with all the tangential fragmented sentancees and sexual inuendos interspersed with visions of grandeur probably related to a high level of female rejection at a young age and those three years in Catholic school having to stay up all night smoking cigarrettes and burning incense awhile constantly looking over my shoulder if you know what I mean (in this situation just imagine Cindy Cawford with an "attachement" behind you and it ain't that unbearable), of course there is nothing more arousing than one of those tarten green jumpers and a pale yellow blouse buttoned up to the little dog collar on the neck till this day, so I guess I turned out OK in spite of all the things you hear about the papel in the media. I was geting woried that maybe just maybe he had past onto the open water world and could not show himslef here on the CDF because of fear he would not win at the RoSamBo contest. Hey Sid, enjoy the canyon (carry plenty of water), i'm going to be spending september on the colorado plateau doing some plane camping at backcountry airstrips that are scattered all over the place. October in marianna works for me. Tearing it up is not the phrase although i guess i've left my share of scars on the floor and broken pieces of rock all over ginnie for the past few weeks (at least i'm not digging in the floor looking for new passage yet)...fast closing in on a $400 dollar gas bill at excursions east for the month (i gotta work on that rmv but at least i'm gonna get some free t shirts!) Have been showcave diving at ginnie a lot to squeeze all i can out of my annual that expires soon. Next time you are in marianna we can go hit the middle grounds in jb or maybe hit a cave that is off the beaten path (a wild one). Bill

...the camping I was refering to is Florida State Caverns Park, the cost is under $20 and up to 8 people two cars can share a site. Clean bathrooms and electric/water on each site. Plus after hours we can go dry caving illegally in some caverns besides the regular tour one. Hope to see you and the Sea Ghost there. Oh crap I just realized that the Sid lives on. Actually, a deco bottle and two Mako's stolen sounds like a rather slow holiday weekend for Ginnie. I did think to show Karen where the entrance was as we passed it on our way up to Peacock, now she knows where to avoid turning should she be driving and I alseep for some reason 8)

Thanks for the update on Ginnie. I didn’t hear about the problems until I read your post. It’s very unfortunate that people stole stuff, but Ginnie isn’t the only place which has that problem. At any rate, it’s a good thing to let people know about the problem, so we can be more vigilant to try to help avoid this.

A decision was made to have the Social at Ginnie on July 2nd because of several reasons:
1) The first and most successful Cave Divers Forum Social was held at Ginnie on July 4th.
2) The 2004 hurricane season and the timing of the storms from last year (Charlie Aug. 9 -14, Frances Aug. 25 – Sept. 8th, Ivan Sept. 2nd – 24th and Jeanne Sept. 13th – 28th).
3) The potential for a site to be flooded out. Only a couple of cave sites are less likely to be flooded out.
4) Cave access for a large number of people at the same time (u/w traffic).
5) Surface area for a large number of people.
6) Amenities – Picnic tables, restrooms, pavilion, parking, grills …
7) The hours, and season, which the cave is open for diving. A park closing at 6 PM will shut things down sooner.
8.) A holiday weekend provides more time for people to be able to travel to and from the CDF Social.
9) Family activities for non-divers.
10) We needed to set something up well in advance, so people can start planning without the worry of being flooded out or a hurricane.
11) It gives Jammer a chance to find the tuber he’s looking for. :)

Were the stolen items reported to the Ginnie Management? Hopefully they have security cameras down by the entrances to the Devils system and maybe they can review the tapes. Also, can we get a better description of the stolen items? Maybe we can get more eyes looking for the stolen stuff! Where was the stage bottle stolen from (inside the cave behind the rock, at the entrance to the system or on the steps)? Where were the scooters stolen from?

Ginnie had someone from Security attend the CDF Social last year and he was keeping a close eye on what was going on. I agree with Ron on the recourse for thieves and we all have to watch out for each other. I can see it now, in addition to car guards, we post scooter guards. :)

I also want to attend the anti-social, if I can work it into my schedule!

I don't even go to the crapper unless we take turns watching the truck. Maybe for the social, talk to rose and maybe she can post Terry at one set of steps to watch deco bottles/scooters, etc., and to keep the tubers out of the left lane.

Jammer ... It was nice to meet you and the gang at P1 on Monday. Sorry, but when I think of Ginnie and tubers, your old signature line pops into my mind. :)

Chip, I meant nothing disparaging toward the organizers when I used the term "powers-that-be." We all owe them a tremendous debt for the work they put in. However, some incorrect information needs to be pointed out:

The first social wasn't on a holiday weekend. It was at Ginnie on July 20, 2002.

The most successful social WAS on a Fourth of July weekend (2003), but it wasn't at Ginnie, it was at Jim Hollis' River Rendezvous. People dove Peacock, Little River, Telford, Bonnet, Convict, Madison Blue, and others, then came to the River Rendezvous for the cookout and presentations. Many people I've talked to consider that the best social so far. I certainly do.

I love diving Ginnie, but never again on a holiday weekend. I'm sure I won't be missed, though.

Again, thanks to all that help organize these things. I hope to see many of you at the antiSocial.

It is likely to be 'wild', a lot of 'explaining' cave diving to the non-cavers, and worst of all, maybe too many bikinis around (oh, and muscle guys for the gals too, maybe...).

I messed up my last post. What I meant to say is that I am off the following weekend, the 21st., and I can bring some grills and some meat and cook lunch and supper during the anti-social. Mountain oysters of course!

Hell that was nothing compared to me getting my nads kicked into the back of my throat during the roshambo maylay in Edds driveway. Herbie said he was only pissing blood for about a week after getting that cane through his spleen and kidney. Just wear a steel cup and some kevlar body armor and you'll be fine.

Was a firm date ever decided upon for the anti-social? I heard from Edd that he will be going to Oregon October 12-27, and let's face it, Edd and CaveAdventurers is a big part of the anti-social atmosphere. TAG Fall Cave-In is going on October 6-9, so the next best time would be the weekend of the 29th. Good news is that Edd has bought the property next door and will look into the possibility of allowing us to camp there as well as providing a porta-potty. Let's show our support for the man that has done more to improve the conditions on the Mill Pond than anyone else and plan this event around his schedule. It just would not be the anti-social without Edd there.

Edd has even mentioned the possibility of hosting a Bar-B-Q if we put this off until the weekend of October 29, or November 5. Given the dates that he will be in Oregon, I think that November 5 would be the ideal weekend to get together, party, and dive our asses off in the Mill Pond.

It looks like we have a problem. Although we can't be expected to arrange the date based on one person's schedule, I agree that Edd is a very important pillar in the panhandle community.

October 29 isn't good, as that's the date of the Cave Excursions Diver Appreciation Day, and I'm sure a lot of us have already put that on our schedules (I know I have).

If Cave Adventurers will be open without Edd, we might have to stick to the 22nd of October. If his shop will be closed, there won't be any gas fills within fifty miles, and most people don't bring enough doubles for a whole day of diving. We'll HAVE to move the date.

Back in the late 1990s, it became tradition for a lot of us to go to Jackson Blue the first Saturday after Labor Day (when the park closes for the year), as it was the first weekend we could dive JB in three months. Before there was a Cave Diver's Forum, a lot of us subscribed to the Yahoo cavedivers e-group, and I remember the one in 2000 when I met several of our now-regulars (Gary in particular) for the first time. I think I'll call the Jackson County Commission tomorrow about September 10, although for the last several years there has been a private party on the first Saturday after the park closed.

People, let's hear some input.

Don't worry if I can make it that weekend or not. If I am the one you are talking about. Sure, I would love to make the antisocial and meet some of you guys for the first time, and dive, but I have had to work the weekend of the CDF social the last three years, so it won't kill me if I miss this. You guys ought to have it when Edd is there anyway. My 2 cents.

I did not even think about the to do down at Bill's. I like the idea of holding it the weekend after Labor Day, even though I will be up in Alaska then. I am not sure what Edd has in place for the time he is planning to be gone; I would like to think that he has made arrangements for the shop to stay open, but he has not mentioned anything in his emails. He did express a desire to be a part of this, and for reasons other than the availability of gas I think that it just would not be as enjoyable given all he has done for the Mill Pond area if it was held while he was out of town. Add to that the fact that he is looking into letting us camp on his property and offering to host a Bar-B-Que and it makes even more sense to plan this around his schedule. The weekend of November 5 would actually work out best for me, but that is really a non-issue.

Please folks let me know what where doing here-? we need to firm the date of this event-! As far as the Cave Excursions thing on Oct. 29, I don't think that I will be able to make that, as I will probably have to work on that week end.
You also have Matt 'The Dreamer' Johnston planning to try to make it down for our anti-social.......This should be the dive party that we should concentrate on. I don't need to win anything, other than the fellowshiip of my caving friends........Seriously-!

If you have spent any time at all diving the Mill Pond the past couple of years, then you will realize that Edd has become an integral part of that experience. Prior to his setting up shop there the closest fills were an hour away in Dothan, so most everyone showed up with multiple tanks. I don't think that it is asking much to plan this to include him. He was a big part of the first anti-social last year. Okay, Sid and Herbie, time to hear from you guys with an opinion on this as you guys were the originators of the anti-social movement last year. Edd is prepared to offer you some hot meat Sid :roll:

Hi to everyone planning the antisocial and planning to come to the antisocial. I think you all should have it when ever it is most convient for the you. I will be in Oregon for my brothers wedding Oct. 12th to the 27th but the shop will be open normal hours on the weekends and 4:00pm to 8:00pm on the weekdays do to the fact that Mark will be in school during the day. I was just telling DeWayne if it were anytime other than when I am in OR. we would have a big BBQ here at C.A. and I would check with neighbors and the Co. to make camping available in the 2 acre lot next to my house that I bought. So by all means have the antisocial when it's good for you and if I am here great and if I am not Mark will take good care of you and everybody HAVE FUN!!!!! Edd

I would just do the usual and imagine it's Cindy Crawford behind me with a strapon (learned that trick in Jail cell Peach County GA after getting pulled over by a nazi state trooper bearing the resemblance herman gerring, but that's another story, kinda sultry with the thigh hi boots and leather thong he was wearing as he walked up to the truck to cite me). Cut it up into 6-8in sections, season, fill the cavity with butter & onions. Then wrap it up in some foil and let it slow roast in some coals. Even water snakes will taste good if cooked properly; got to use low heat and cook slowly else you run the risk of it being a bit tough."

Did you consider taking a poll of all weekends good for those who would attend and picking one with the highest predicted attendance? You could limit the weekends to those that have other availabilities (like Ed and the organiser). Taking responses by PM might keep them on topic.

I still have a whole lot of hot dogs in the freezer that I plan on bringing, and we also have the unclaimed prizes from the CDF Social that will be given away at the Anti-social.

As much as everyone wants this to be a chaotic, unplanned event, we should at least decide what each person plans on bringing so that everyone doesn't bring the same thing.

We will bring the hot dogs (40 or so), 1 box of hamburgers (20), 10 lbs of chikin leg quarters, 20 lbs of charcoal and all of the cooking equipment required including spices, salt, etc.

Buns, condoments, side dishes, any additional meat, cold beverages etc. will be up to someone else.

I have a nice Coleman fire pit that has a big grilling surface, and I also have a Weber that I will bring along. I too will bring extra hamburgers and brats, and stuff like that. We can have a community barbeque.
