I agree, Norm takes excellent pictures: http://www.pbase.com/eanx/diving&page=all
He uses a 5 MP camera. I can't even keep track of all the U/W Photo classes that he takes.
Ray Eccleston takes nice pictures and he uses a C5050Z with an Ike housing, just like Norm. I posted some of Ray's pictures in the photo gallery.
TJ also takes nice pictures. He uses the same camera outfit that I use, but our cameras are only 3.3 MP for the underwater stuff. I use a 6.3 MP camera for my land pictures. Most of our pictures are in the gallery.
I have seen a lot of other excellent pictures, taken by other Forum members, and most of these are in the gallery.

Norm does a good job. I've got to admit when he loaned me his strobe and we both were taking photo's with the same camera setup he had a lot higher percentage of good shots. I think taking the classes helps and the time he spends with it helps.
There also a very good photographer in our group no one has talked about and thats Cindy Butler. Try her web site. http://www.cavephoto.com/

Only THREE UW courses in 25 years, but SIX Digital Software courses in 48 WEEKS! The trick to get a high kill-ratio is a) in post-Process, and more importantly, b) shoot OFTEN and a LOT on each Dive...
Do NOT fret over your megaPixel count! Good 8x10's CAN be gotten from 3 meg or less IF the original file is close to flawless...What most of y'all non-photogs never see is the hideous leavin's (the Recycle Bin) after our shoots...
I boast of a fair average kill-ratio (often 40-50%), but my "leave it JUST the way it is" count is <5%... :>))
If anybody wants the 15 minute flower-talk on digital post-processing at the CDS workshop, lemme know; I'll have the Laptop there...bring some of your own stuff un-souped on a floppy or CD, and I can show how easily you can impress yourself! <g>

You can not become "instantly" a good UW shooter any more than one becomes a "veteran" Cave Diver just by getting their Full Cave cert. At least the failures in photography are "deleted" and not recovered...
HEY CINDY!
Your lighting is AWESOME! What are the details of your rig?

Hi Norm, My lighting depends. I have a 18 Watt HID and two 10 watts available to me now that I use a little Nikon digital with. I also have a Sea and Sea pro set up with duel strobes. Most of the photos on my web site were taken with a little mx10 I tucked under my arm and used. Lots of primary lights for filler helps. I clustered up a couple of exloration dives trying to do photos and push cave on the same dive. I have been baned by my team from doing that again! :-D So now I don't shoot photos as much. We do power point presentaions for talks we give so every once and a while I can get the guys to let me call a photo day! There are more photos on the team site by both myself and Brian Williams. It's

Cindy,
Thanks!
I just purchased the DR Video reflector for my MR10, but haven't used it yet (OW or Overhead)... I'm sure it will be an interesting Science Project the first few tries...<g>
I can imagine how clustered Cave HID's can help exposure. So far, although I do have two Ike digi-Strobes, I haven't tried dub strobes UW yet...it seems that I bought my Ike housing 15 minutes before they added the TTL "black box" inside. :>((
I'd love to DB with you sometime for some Salon work!

Thanks for the link Duncan,
He's got some stunning photography. Do you know how long it will be before he has the online sales working? I was very impressed. Talk about a world traveler. he seems to have visited a lot of the place most people only get to see in magazine.

No idea - Gavin does a lot of stuff for Greenpeace and is often away. Best try email if there is anything you are interested in.
