Hello CDF Members,

I wanted to take this time to briefly introduce myself. As the title suggests, I hope to become Full Cave certified sometime in the future. My name is Richard Martin aka Niko hence NikoSuave for my screen name. Remember that cheesy song not long ago called Rico Suave?? Well a co-worker of mine decided that would be my nickname and it has stuck with me since. I live in Wetumpka, AL and work in I.T. for a Public School District.

Anyhow, I just completed my Cavern Training with Ken Paramore at Vortex and Morrison Springs as of today. BTW...Kenny P. is a great instructor IMHO. Just a great guy overall. Therefore, I hope to meet you guys and gals in person some day while diving in Cave Country. Of course, after I become certified. I've already met a couple of friendly divers (Miguel and Barry) at Morrison today during my checkout dives. Viz was terrible at surface but the Cavern was crystal clear and warmer. I dove WET!!! BRRR...Take a guess what my next equipment purchase will be with my next Tax Refund???

Take care all and dive safe!

Richard 'aka' Niko

Welcome, Richard, to CDF and to the world of wet holes in the ground!

Now, with your cavern cert, you need to make a trip to MX . . . you could easily spend a week or more just exploring caverns. Not just the ones on the tourist menu, but there are other, lovely ones that most folks never see!

Welcome to CDF Richard
Lynne is right, Mexico has more cavern than anywhere else in the world, some even that get barely dived!
Enjoy your time diving under ceiling, as we say in France and good luck with your future training.

:)

Hi Lynne,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I recently took a trip during Thanksgiving to Cancun and dove 1 Cenote (Chac Mool) in Puerto Adventuras. It was amazing to me but I'm certain there's a lot more to see and discover. I'm going back in June 18th to 25th for more! I'll be staying in Playa Del Carmen this time. Hopefully, I will have my Intro to Cave completed by that time. If not, I'll just do some guided Cave dives. Look forward to meeting everyone here on the board. Dive safe!

Hi Jason,

I see that you're in Puerto Aventuras. I'm gonna be in Playa del Carmen June 18th-25th. I hope to have my Cave Intro completed by then. I can dedicate 3 or 4 days for Cave Diving with a guide. I'll check out your website for more info. Or you can get in touch with me through PM. Thanks!

Richard, once you're Intro in MX, you'll have opened the treasure chest. There is SO much cave to see down there! And do hook up with Jason; he's a super nice guy and a very good diver. We did three days of very fun diving together a year ago (unfortunately, I haven't managed to connect with him since :( )
