Someone just sent these to me, and I thought some of you who have been cave diving for a long time might find them humorous. I'll be hitting the big 6-0 in November and have been cave diving since 1987, so I guess I can classify myself as an "Old cave diver".
"Old spelunkers never die. They just cave in."
"Old cave divers never die. They just extend their bottom time."

Reminds me of a bumper sticker that I had from the Old Branford Dive Shop back in the mid 80's.... wish I still had it.
Cave Divers Do It Deeper
:partyman:
Cavers do it deeper, stay down longer, get wetter and always come up satisfied. 8)

Seems like I have also heard that "Cave divers do it in the dark". :smt112

Cave Divers dive deeper & penetrate further.
I have seen that as a bumper sticker.
Sidemounters like it tight and dirty (silty).

I remember the bumper stickers that had sexual overtones.
Real cavedivers know how to lay the line.
Real cavedivers have a big REEL.
Cavedivers don't retire, they just take a long surface interval.

Most "dry" cavers don't like to be called spelunkers. That is a word conjured up by newspapers (in the '40s, I think), and it was basically used as an insult.
1987? You are just a newbie :-)

My t-shirt read "Cave Divers have the Longest Hoses"

"Cave Divers have the Longest Hoses"
I "killed" once a group of openwaters asking my buddy: "Hey reelman, how about S-drill?". They kept it away of us.

I was 40 years old when I started diving in 1986. A year later, I was diving caves and caverns and deep sinkholes. It's about the only type of diving that I do now. I think I've moved out of "newbie" status after doing it for 18 years and logging well over 1,000 dives. I mostly dive with a sidemount rig now because my lower back and knees don't handle 100+ pound doubles too well anymore, especially on long walks or hard climbs. I've also seen a lot of new caves and some new places in the older caves since I started sidemounting.

That was only a joke sonny :-)
I think Hal Watts, and George Krasle have a big head start on both of us :-)
They are both still diving too.

I knew you were just joking about my "newbie" status.
I took a deep air course(240') with Hal Watts and Dick Oberlies in September 1987. After taking a Trimix course with Larry Green in August 1996, it was great to start diving below 200' with a clear head.:-D
I have to give credit to divers like Hal Watts and Tom Mount and some others for doing the type of diving that they do at their age. I hope that I'm still able to dive caves when I reach "senior citizen" status.:)

I too was kidding you--I started cave diving when I was 17 - I am 50 now. I bacame an NACD instructor when I was 18.
I started cave diving at 16, got my instructor's at 18 or 19. Sheck told me once that I was the youngest female cave diving instructor ever....however Sheck also always said that you could make a record out of any stat!

I guess there were a lot of us youngsters back then.
Cave diver at 16, NACD instructor at 20, CDS instructor at 21.
I am 47 now and feel as good as I did back then. Hopefully a little wiser.

Going on 60 has slowed me down a little from doing those long, brutal dives, but I still enjoy cave diving and hope to be able to do it for several more years. :)

I guess the big question is, have you figured out which is more interesting?
