View Full Version : Adding Last Post info for local forums

When logging into the CDF and seeing what's happened since I last logged in, the "Last Post" info (far right column) is a great time-saver for perusing the threads. If there's nothing new, then I don't have to open up each category to see if new stuff has been posted. However, under the local forums every sub-forum to which I belong has "Never" listed as the Last Post info. Is there a way to get this changed so that I don't have to click through all the local forums to see if changes have been made?

I know it's possible, because once upon a time one of the moderators accidentally gave me open access to everything on the CDF. Don't worry, I didn't do anything maniacal although I did look at some of the secret forums to see all the cool things the mods were saying about me!

I just hope it's possible to see updates for the forums that I belong to and leave out the info for the ones I don't. Any chance this could happen?

Thanks,
-Jon

Huh? Don't you go to this page first?

It gets you to the same place. Still not sure why he gets last post "never" on forums he is a member of.

I always just click on "New Posts."

Ditto that, and it shows me all forums I have access to, not just the public ones. This might be what you're looking for, Jon.

He has the "show posts from" set to a time period after the last post. IE if it's been 32 days since the last post, and you have that forum set to show posts from 1 month, it will show never.

I do, but I don't get all the spiffy info that you cool moderators get. Here's what I see:

Can I get last post info for those lines that say private?

Read JJ's post above yours.

I have the same issue. It never bothered me, but while it is being talked about... How do I change this setting? I have looked at all the settings and nothing mentioned this.
I did find "Default Thread Age Cut Off" and it is set to "show all posts" and that didnt work.

I dont know if that is the issue though. There are threads where items were posted within the last 24 hours, but it reads "never" and just like Jon it is only the Local and Private forum section that does this.

That's for showing the actual threads, I found the same thing.

Where is the setting that JJ mentioned?

If you are not a member of the group that can see the new posts, then you'll not see any new posts in those areas.
You may be able to see the category, just not the actual posts that are in it

What about the groups that you are a member of? should we be able to see those?

Yes. You have to go to each forum you are interested in, and near the bottom left, there is a box that says "Show posts from the". Set it to say "beginning" or maybe "last year".

Ok. Let me see......
No go. They are all set to "beginning" and same thing occurs.

TommyB, you're right. I meant to ask about if there's a way for me to see the last post for the lines in the bottom that say "Never". The ones that say private are the ones I don't belong to. I tried FW's suggestion and it's a no go for me as well.

Is this a setting that's only available to moderators?

If you are not a member of the group that can see inside that category, then it will display "NEVER"

I think I've confused you. Look at the picture again, I'm a member of the Sump Diver's Group and it displays "Never"
I'm not a member of the Orlando Group and it displays "Private" (as it should)

Hey guys. Try this little test. Post something in a forum you have permission, like DC cavers, or sumpdiving. Then click New Posts, and see what shows up. It isn't supposed to show old posts, just ones since you last visited.

I just posted in the sump diving forum as a test, since Scott and Jon are members of that one.

Same for me.

Forrest, that worked, but in the main forum page, it still lists "never" under the ones I a member of.

It really dosent bother me. I just check every so often to see if anything new has happened.

Once I'm in the Sump Divers forum I can see that you added a new post. That has always worked that way.
The problem is that it doesn't show on the main page.

Let me check a few things.
I did not set that forum (category up) so there may be something not set exactly right.
check back in a few minutes and see if new posts are there by cliking on the "whats new" at the top of the forums

thanks
