Hang in there Matt. An old friend of mine went diving last fall. He has advanced Parkinson's, and can barely walk. He was determined to get into the water again.

Hi Jim, thanks for the good luck! Yeah, I have big obstacles to overcome, but nothing will happen if I don't try! There's lots of things that were thought once impossible... going to the moon. Man can do anything once he puts his mind to it and has the right people helping!

Take care and safe diving.

Hello Moonfuzzy, thanks for the laugh! And thanks especially just for writing to me. Believe it or not, I wasn't even hot! It was so darn cold outside that day, I was just right inside that suit.. Lol! I am one of those people that gets cold really easy, especially when it's only 25 degrees outside. Talk to you later, take care!

Several years ago we were at Ginnie when a stranger asked if he could dive with us. His walk was a little awkward, but nothing that unusual.

Before and after the dive, an older gentleman helped him with his gear, etc. It turned out to be his father. I said something to the effect of, "I love to see a grown man and his father do things together. I was never able to do that, since my father died when I was a teenager. I hope you are savoring every day you spend with him."

He told me, "You're not telling me anything new. Two years ago I was in a wheelchair, and was told I would never walk again. I have Multiple Sclerosis. I savor EVERY day."

Talk about what a positive outlook will do for you. I believe his name is George Evans, and I hope I run into him again.

Hey Matt,
Congrats on the dry suit. Hopefully they can rig up your full face mask system so you can get in the water real soon. Being underwater will really get you stoked. Maybe, if things work out for you, I could help make arrangements to get you into the big tropical aquariams in Orlando and have all the fish swim around you. Good luck!
John

Good morning Dwain,

Thanks for the great words. I am so persistant and determined to dive that I know it will happen. I will keep my chin up and keep pluggin away. Thanks again for writing to me, I do get frustrated sometimes that I am not diving yet after working on this for a year, but my anger just makes me more persistant... Lol! Then I do just fine and open some more doors! Take care and safe diving.

Hi Russel, thanks for the positive message! That is pretty inspirational story about the gentleman with MS. I have seen myself what some persistance and determination will do... Lol! I will be diving soon, I've worked too hard to have it not work out! I also savor everyday, I know life's too short! My dad is the reason I have lived so long as well, he takes care of me. Take care, thank you for writing to me. Safe diving,

Hi John, thanks for writing to me, I am already stoked about getting in the water to scuba dive, it is all I talk about and dream about. I love that dry suit, man, it felt so great to have it on. My full face mask is awesome as well! I will keep you in mind for setting something up in Orlando, what a generous offer! Things are going to start coming together soon and I will be in the water I hope before the years end. I have faith! Take care and safe diving.

I know that we will be reading that report by the year's end Matt 8) Anything is possible if you just keep that hope alive. I have battled chronic low back pain for going on 8 years now and finally found a doc determined to do something about it other than simply masking the issue with medication. I have always used diving as my excuse not to go on narcotics full time, although there have been times when the thought was very tempting. I had the left sciatic nerves zapped a week ago and cannot believe just how good it feels to be rid of that pain finally without the need for a pill or shot; having the right side done next Friday :D My only complaint is that it took so long to find someone willing to give the procedure a try, but yet I am thankful that it finally came about. I hope you get the opportunity to venture down to FL one day and check out the springs, although I must warn you that it is very addictive. You are a true inspiration for everyone who has ever faced a challenge in life, take pride in that and keep looking ever forward.

Hi DeWayne.
You will defiantly reading a report about me at the year ends. Yes anything is possible when have determination. It is also good to have the support from all you cool divers. I would like to hear some of your dive stories some time and any one else who wants to shear there story’s.

I'm glade to hear that you are able to have some one help to get to main problems with you back pain. I'm like you with having too much meds for pain. Me I don't any thing for my pain because nothing seems to work. I do mind over matter.

I may be able to get down to FL some time. I would love to meet you every body else.

Yes diving is addictive but that is one good addiction.

Take care friend and safe diving. Always Matt

Hopefully Matt, you will find the same pain relief from being submerged as I have experienced. I used to joke with my docs about designing a habitat that would allow me to stay under water 24/7 as the relief I found underwater was much better than any med they had tried out on me. It is a real blessing to have finally found that sort of relief above the surface. Any time you get the chance to make it down just let us know, you will have more willing dive buddies than you will know what to do with 8)

Hi DeWayne, I can believe that under water that the pain is less. I have had other diver friends say the some. One of my RT friends and his brother, also a diver who is RT too, well be testing a vent above water and he well be under water. If that works out I might be coming down to your neck of the woods to dive. More dive buddy’s the better. I can handle that.

Take care safe diving Matt. 8)
