This question is directed to anyone that plans several day (3 days or so) dive trips. When considering the Marianna and High Springs areas how do you plan your trip?

I think about where I want to dive, where's a good place to consider home for a couple nights, and go...?
I'm sure thats not what your looking for specifically, so what do you mean by "how do you plan your trip?".

Last time, we went to Luraville and rented one of the awesome trailers from Cave excursions. We hit all the hot spots there, and then on the wat back home to St. Louis, we stopped off and rented the trailer from Edd for a night.
I voted for High Springs area because Luraville wasnt an option, and we spent 6 days hitting Peacock, Madison, Ginnie, etc and then hit Marianna for 2 days before heading home.

Originally I was going to ask about all three to see if both peacock and ginnie were the same or different but that had to many combinations for a quick poll.

Your thinking about where i want to dive. Do you consider marianna vs ginne and then choose one or do you consider marianna and ginnie together?

If it is a quick trip (3-4 daysof diving) i will do one or the other depending on differant factors at the time (work, family, what systems are blown out). If I am planning a week long (6 days of divingor longer) I will try to work my way across the state and hit all the major areas.

Same here....3-4 days of diving, probably all of it will be with 90-120 minutes of where we sleep (usually Luraville). With 5-7 days of diving, we will probably dive both the High springs/Luraville area and the Marianna area.
I selected both, but its probably not 100% accurate for the purposes of your poll.

Home base is always Dive Outpost, but we usually get out to Marianna for a day or two on a trip.

Personally I consider Luraville and HS to be the same area. If I am in one, I will go to the other w/o a second thought. As I live in Melbourne, FL, I am only 3 or 4 hours away, and would consider this my local cave dive area. Does that qualify me as local?
If I was to go away for several days, I would go to the Marrianna area, or the Luraville/HS area, but not both.
If I was to make a week of it, I might visit both.
If I had more time, I would go to the Bahamas or Mexico for a week, then go to No FL for the remaining days.
If I was really well off, and had a month, then I'd let my wife know where I was going when I got there and everyone else could read about it when I got home.
If I never had to work again, I'd probably be in a convalescent home and wouldn't care much about diving anyway.

Bill, not the clearest question. I said both but I didn't mean both contiguously. I would do either but rarely both in one trip.

I usually stay at Dive Oupost.
Cathy has cottages, or bunk beds depending on your budget.
High Springs is about 45 minutes away from Ginnie. So if you get an early start its easy to use Luraville as home base.
From Luraville 30 minutes to Little River. So once again using Luraville as home base.
Marianna dives I would not combine with Peacock/Ginnie/Little River if you only have 3-4 days.
Dive Outpost has bank Nitrox if diving OC (booster on site if using CC) and is minutes away from Peacock. so its pretty easy to get 2 dives a day.
Plus for night dives there is Cow Spring just down the road from Dive Outpost.
If adventerous you can always do a river swim to Telford also minutes away from Dive Outpost.
Marianna is a large hign flow system and can be swam but has a lot more cave to offer if you are using DPV. Depths similiar to Ginnie so you rackup deco pretty fast.
Hope This helps

Yeah, walking with doubles on. :smt079
I couldn't answer the question. I have done trips where we did both areas on the same trip, and I have done trips where I have done one area -- but I've done both High Springs and the Mill Pond as single destination trips. That doesn't fit into your poll.

Yes the question needs to be developed into more of a survey. Actually based on these results and a little more thought it would be intersting to explore the segmenting factors that everyone is mentioning. This is sort of a non-market/experiential consumption bundled good question where in some situations the caves are substitutes and in others they are compliments.

Your survey is riddled with bias, and therefore useless. Not once did you mention the Tampa or Tallahassee areas!
I mean who would want to waste time with Ginnie or JB when there is always Wayne's World and Harvey's ?

You'll love it. it's a great, highly underrated area. The company is great too.

Great systems but Vis has always been hit or miss for me.
