Unfounded rumor: the rumor that Ginnie Springs (Devils System) is closed is NOT true. The Devils system is open and available for diving at this time. Please call the shop if you have any questions. 386-454-7188

Bill Rotella :D

Why would you debunk this?

I wanted Ginnie all to myself...

we need to spread the rumor to all the tourist, last time i was there I actually experienced a silt out when going from little devil to the ear because of a group in inertubes. and then sombody used me as a ladder to get back in their tube, i got pushed into the bottom. as you can imagine I was prety pissed, guess its my fault for trying to swim under them...

reminds me of the late nite dive excursions in Little River, while making our deco stops & viewing the locals with their girl friends skinny dipping in the spring basin......amazing what our primary lights will do for the 'performing artists'-! :P

Dido Rich, I am not aware of anything in the world that can bit 25 minutes of deco on the Eye with UF students passing on an inner tube. Freankly speaking, the combination of O2 and UF girls on tubes, have made me reconsider that "NO EXCERSISE" rule.

Its enough to make you WANT a deco obligation :D

Why do you think they call that part of the system the eye.

I don't know about NOW, but in the BW era, often the unsuspecting night time skinny-dippers would get caught at the Eye at Ginnie; divers deco'ing would flood the OW basin with enough candle-power to make the water purely invisible; QUITE IMPRESSIVE!!

Ginnie is not looking good for this weekend maybe. Me and some friends dove there Yesterday 4-13-05 and the 1st dive of the morning when we were walking to the ear the water was up over the steps and the entire deck platform was under water about 2" or 3" and water was clear was very little flow. But on the second dive we were exiting the Eye and the tanic water was almost over the the entire entrance to the eye. The water was continuing to rise and the parking lot is almost flooded the shower rooms are closed and parking is very limited. I would call in advance to make sure it is divable this weekend we are exspecting some more rain here in Ga. and it effects the Santa Fe.

Hehe- a few years ago I was diving Telford- I parked at the furthest back sink and after a few hours came out the main spring with my primary light out, using the moonlight to exit. I wasnt paying too much attention, but near the surface, there was this strange noise- As I broke the surface, I realized it was screaming- Two teenage girls thigh deep in the water and butt-nekkid, beers in hand were screaming their heads off at the "monster" that had "slithered" out of the cave. (This is the 90's, not the 70's!!) Had quite a conversation with the two, as they were too drunk to decide that lack of clothing might have been a problem... Ah- the days before marriage....

Just remember when you dive it you will have to adjust for the depth difference with your gas mixes.

Remember to only put one tablet in your tank instead of two.

Folks, I dove Devil's this afternoon with Adam and Mike. The vis was great, but the water is way up!! The bathhouse is closed, but no water in it yet :-) and there are not many places to park!!

The run is 10ft deep, the ledge under the Eye is 26 ft deep, and I managed to hit 113ft in the swim thru in the floor of the Hill 400 by the July Springs jump. Not sure if they're going to close.....they will if they lose the road back to Devils....but it's not under yet. I'll be diving again tomorrow and will let y'all know an update.

Safe diving,

Rich

WOW!!!!! when I dove it yesterday the ledge at the Eye was 23' so that means it came up enough overnight to add 3' wow that is not good. Suposed to be dry for the next week so lets hope it is about to crest and go down. For those of you diving Ginnie Sunday if it is open (Cross your fingers) I will be there.

My personal best "catch" was in the '80's while surveying Suwannee Blue:

I had learned from an earlier exercise in UW survey to be SURE that you can read your notes before you leave the area. I surfaced in the first collapsed tunnel pool and while I STILL had my mask on and reg in was proofing the slate for readability...my gaze slowly went up and I espyed two female nature/sun lovers in chaise lounges who gave me little notice at first, then left somewhat unamused by my presence...their notable European style of not shaving ANYWHERE left me to name the site "Hairy Sink" ... I need to dig the map out and compare it to Poucher's...

The configuration is great I like it alot better and Steve also likes his. Thanks for the help Dwain it is always nice to learn from the experienced divers who have been there and done that. As I was telling you I was wanting to do that but we couldn't find the right combo to work. I thank you very much for the help.

The Eye is getting tannic but you can still see the lights/daylight. It gets completly clear as soon as you get on the basen of the Eye, and for the rest of the system.
Ginnie itself is completly clear.

OW and Cavern can dive Ginnie Only
Intro and above can dive Devil's

God it must be nice to live that close to cave country and dive as much as you get to Dwain.......I know Middle Georgia isn't that far away and I have no excuse other than Job, Family, and scheduling ( being an open water instructor gets me diving, but not in the caves where I wanna be )......Hey but at least hearing ya'll guys and gals that do get to go frequently keeps me somewhat happy......But ya know I do keep looking at my office and I keep wondering what kinda dive it would make if the office were flooded.

Well keep diving Dwain and keep posting so I can dive through your exploits.........and stay safe

alright! I like where the forum is heading, more skinny dipping sightings will certainly spice things up a bit. Here is mine.
Dear Cave diver forum, I never thought this would happen to me.... Last December I was doing a late night solo dive at the nest. Thankfully, the moon was full and I was closed circuit. I turned out my lights and settled in for my last stop at 15 feet for 30 minutes. At first, I was starltled when I noticed something swimming around above me. Aligator? No,, " whew I sighed" and then " bingo" the silhouette of a nude woman appeared above me and then unfortunately her male friend appeared. The rest of the story is up to your imagination.
When I got out they were still there. As I packed up my gear I could hear her repimand her lover for insinuating the divers would make bubbles as they approached.
Are there still those who deny the benefits of closed circuit technology?

Of course i had that feeling, now that i cancelled my trip the water levels are dropping. If i would'v come down, the levels would still be rising......
Anyway i'm rescheduling for 2 to 3 weeks in June
