A buddy and I dove the devils on Saturday and came across a very confusing line configuration near skidrow.
We swam goldline to rollercoaster to short cut, and across hill400 past the bats towards skidrow. Coming from that direction the jump to the right that takes you to the tunnel that goes towards the iceroom is messed up.
There is a line that runs inches away from and parallel to the permanent line, but eventually ties into the permanent line. This makes a sort of very sharp or acute angled "T" connection. I didn't follow the "T" but stayed on the permanent line that curves to the left back to the hill400 line. I think that maybe in a silt out, the lines may get confused which could create navigation problems.
All interested cavers, please check it out.
Thanks,
Jonathan

I was thru there Sunday - the lines need some attention. Coming from the double arrow line, jump to skid row, then to the bats line, the skid row line turns right at the bats line and runs parallel to it for some distance - I came to that point, realized the line was screwed, figured someone was doing line replacement or maintenance and just jumped left to get to the bats so I could exit. Didn't think too much of it until now.

I dive that part of the cave all the time and don’t really find the lines confusing. But I do find the arrows are, in my opinion, not correct.
Coming from the Ice Room, after the jump to the Double Lines, you jump left onto Skid Row (just setting the perspective). That line (Skid Row) continues about 50 feet (and should be replaced because it is very droopy) and ends where you can either jump left onto a line to the Bats, or right on the same line that exists onto the Hill 400 line (about 200 feet before the Bats, swimming toward Roller Coaster).
Except that the Skid Row line needs to be replaced because it is old and dropping, I think the lines are fine. Maybe I’m not seeing what you all are seeing?
But I think the arrows are wrong. I think there should be back to back arrows pointing in the opposite direction after the jump from Skid Row. The arrows are pointing toward the Bats. I guess the philosophy is, that is the shortest distance to the entrance, taking you to the Bats. But I think the arrows should point to the shortest distance to the Hill 400 line, and they don’t. :smt102

I fixed the line a week or two after the original post - went back and took a good look, it looked like someone had blown it out and ran a reel, then cut and tied it off on the line they were looking for. The second line is gone - all cleaned up.

Maybe that is my confusion. Maybe I didn't see the line left behind by someone who ran a reel? Anyway, thanks for fixing the line.
What are your thoughts about my comment about the back to back arrows on the line leading out in two directions, one to the Bats and the other to another entrance to Hill 400?

I think there's no substitute for learning the cave, the arrows and lines are there in case of a loss of visibility and if you've maintained your continuous guideline, that shouldn't be an issue either. It's a tiny little circuit and no problem if you have good buoyancy, I hardly think that the back to back arrows, or lack thereof is in anyway a safety issue. I mean there aren't any in the Crossover Tunnel at Peacock and I don't see people worrying about that too much. YMMV...... ;)
Safe diving,
Rich
