First I'd like to say thanks to those of you that helped me, what, five years ago when I had a lot of questions about cave diving for a screenplay I was working on. Well, the screenplay didn't get written...but the novel did and I'm in the process of final editing before shipping it off to a publisher.
I have a blog site now and still need input into the book.
I will be posting some scenes and chapters in my blog (if I can figure out how) and would love some input from real cave divers as I don't have that badge yet.
Here's the blog site.
http://blackgoldnovel.blogspot.com/2010/01/welcome.html
Thanks to all for the previous input and I hope to get more response as I put out what I can.

For those interested, I have posted the Prologue to my cave diving novel Black Gold on my website writingunderwater.com
This is the long version of 12 pages which I am cutting to 3...not an easy task, but necessary.

Hi all,
I'm finishing the final polish on a cave diving novel set in the Tallahassee area and am looking for some honest input.
Anyone interested in reading it can access it at my blog site - writingunderwater.com.
or open the attached files.
I currently have two files attached, the prologue and Chapter 1. The dive scenes begin in Chapter 2 which I hope to have up very soon.
Appreciate any input.
DeWayne helped in it's inception, but has disappeared off my radar.
Thanks,
Brian Thometz

DeWayne had to quit diving for health reasons. He still logs in occasionally. The Wakulla Dive Club is around Tallahassee, maybe they could help.

Richard,
Try copy and paste the link. I was still working on how to insert the chapters before I figured out how to make an active link.
Let me know if that doesn't work.

Richard,
If you are using the link on this website and not my blogsite - writingunderwater.com,
then it should work just by clicking on the link. It takes you to a website called filesharing and if you click the link there it downloads as a PDF file. If you don't have adobe PDF reader, just go to the adobe site and it's a free download. Let me know if you have any more problems.
Thanks,
Brian

Chapter 6 is on my website now.
In the first draft of this novel, the church was a giant edifice in gleaming marble and had attracted the notice of a conniving bishop looking to place his nephew in the Pastor's position. As I review and polish the novel I wonder if I made the right move to downsize the church. Any thoughts on this?
How do you feel about the difference between a small town Pastor struggling to keep his church as opposed to a successful Pastor battling a political bishop?
Let me know.
Thanks,
Brian

For anyone who saw the National Geographic Special many years ago, that was what led to the concept for this novel. I was impressed with the use of tracking devices to map progress of the divers from above ground, through a diner, across roads and finally ending at the small sinkhole in the woods.
Chapter 8 of Black Gold in on my website:

Too bad that is still impossibe, at least in "real time". You can locate a stationary transmitter, but not a moving one. (well, at least not yet)

I'm surprised they don't use INS, well, maybe not as they require such large gyros to operate. Still, I'm sure it could be done.

They did, in Wakulla, but yes, it was big.
