View Full Version : New things at Peacock Springs

Yesterday, the Suwannee county Sheriff provided some inmate assistance to help Tom Brown and his park staff install many new picnic tables and those nice tank benches.

We didn't get to use them since the concrete was still wet, but they sure look nice. Thank You!

The VIS was near perfect at Orange and PI. We swam over and out at P2, and found it full of fish.

So that is what all that lumber was stacked up for. Very nice job of getting it put up, thank them for us all.

:D As TJ stated we have made a lot of new changes at PSSP.
Mike & Beverly Heathcott have been living at the volunteer camp site at PSSP for a few weeks. They have built the 20 tank benches the inmate crew came to the park under the guidence of Ranger Jackie Sheffield and cemented all the tank benches in place placed the picnic tables and car stops. The reason for the car stops is to organize the parking, you can park 25 cars at Peacock One now, it you park the center of your vehicle on the center of a car stop you'll be in your proper place, then back up so your car is over top of the car stop and you will not have to worry about stepping over it, it'll be under you car and you'll be within reach of a tank bench or a picnic table. We have had such a great response to the park this weekend we want to thank everyone who has supported the park and the CSO Committee whether you purchased a shirt, sponsored a kiosk
or adopted-a-cave section this is where the money went. The biggest pleasure I have gotten from working with the CSO and being a DEP OPS employee is the fact all our park improvements and the whole trail cost for the walking trail is all coming from the people who use the park-you the cave divers and instructors, we have not had to seek any funding from outside sources and again we thank you for all your support.
Janet and the PSSP CSO Committee :)

Your guys are awesome! It's always a pleasure to go to Peacock Springs. Not only for the caves, and the facilities, the staff is awesome. I would'nt change a thing.

Last weekend was a great test, heaps of people, alot of cars, but it seemed like there was no problem finding a spot (well apart from a quiet place to deco ;))
Well done, I sure do appreciate the efforts that were put in.

Is there camping at Peacock or close by? I know luraville has cabins. what about tent and small popup sites?

Dan Thoms

You would have to go across the river, for a tent location. Or you could pitch one in telford area. If the locals have some room.

Im not sure, exactly where George and them, went but they plugged in the van. And it had restrooms.

(im alot of help,...) Ok ,i'll be quiet.

TJ posted the instructions (http://cavediver.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=7383&highlight=#7383) on the above thread go there and you will have them.

TJ posted the instructions (http://cavediver.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=7383&highlight=#7383) on the above thread go there and you will have them.

<< Drink a beer before continuing with this post! >>

Yes, follow those instructions (http://cavediver.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=7383&highlight=#7383) if you can.

If you can get your pictures uploaded, you can post the link to them ..OR.. if small enough, as an image on your post.

To do that, after uploading, right click on the picture when it is displayed online. Left click on Properties, then highlight the whole url (link to picture), then press Ctrl C (to copy) ...OR... go to EDIT, then COPY in the top menu.

Right click anywhere on your new post, and left click on paste (or Edit then Paste). Your url will transfer to the post/message.

<< 2nd beer about here >>

That will suffice if you just want to show the link, but if you want the picture to show up (and it isn't grossly huge/wide), highlight the url again, this time on the url you just pasted, then click on the IMG button atop the new message window. Repeat as necessary, then save.

*** !!! or... uploaded and PM or email me and I'll add them to your post. If I do that, you can EDIT your own posts and see what changes I did.

The big thing is getting them on the web. If you can upload them, there are plenty of moderators that will add them to your posts if you need help there.

<< if you understood all that, or not, celebrate with beer #3 >>

IF you still don't understand all the above, or care to try, email them to me.

Hey, you got it! The beers always increase one's IQ... or so it feels like it...

Hint, when getting the url, do it on the larger picture. You got the thumbnail (unless you meant to).

Also, you can hit PREVIEW as often as you want to see your results, but you can also hit EDIT to redo.

Good job. Does this mean anyone can do it ?

Hey Janet, what are those concrete things behind those vehicles?

Hate to be rude but they look like trip hazards to me. Given that I'm a bit on the awkward side on land you know.

Mr. TJ, see how the white van has PROPERLY parked centered on the cement car stop, the vehicle is straight, backed up so the stop is underneath his vehicle, eliminating
the trip hazard. Maybe I'll print the picture out so I can show how it's
to be done, a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for the Easter deco, the site looks so festive now.

Janet, did the biologist say if we get to keep the walkway? Nice job on the lot. Hope you can get everyone to park centered on the blocks. Kida tough while sucking down a beer during Gator Week. :-D . Now I know who was taking picturesw of my gear standing up on the second bench.
Hmmm... let's see where I signed that release for photo's????

Never underestimate my ability to trip over my own feet. Let alone a parking curb. No insult intended. I understood their purpose. I just know what's coming. I'll have to be extra careful.

Its going to be hard for me to get use to parking 'properly' on a dirt parking lot. Help me out here... so you won't rag on me the next time. How many degrees off the 90 can I be to the car stop? Is 30 too much? How about 22.5? How far off it can I be? 2 feet? 14 inches? What if I park head in? What about trailers? What if I park a motorcycle, can I park sideways then?

What are the feelings on painting those stops?

I realize when your car is backed up to them they aren't a problem, but what about when the lot isn't full, they blend in pretty well.

Nah, they are pretty obvious, we dont want it to look like a McDonalds playground.

Janet

Let me know next time your coming to the park & I'll personally
assist your parking effort, I believe we settled for 10%, we want to
get you prepared for in cave activity. :smt026 That is me directing traffic.
By the way since we are on the subject have you all noticed the traffic is now one way at Peacock? In as always and out at the P3 side, be sure to turn left as the sign states or Ranger West will be waiting at the other end
for you. :P

Could be done like my LDS does it. Red with white diagonal stripe across it. :D
