Going to Saba over Easter, has anyone done any diving their? If so any suggestions.
Mike
Hey Mike,
You are in for a very big Suprise here. I met a dive shop owner & instructor from Saba, & she loved it there. Very deep reefs, Clear blue oceans, & high mountains-! Very removed from the other dive resorts, & virtually un-spoiled. I never dove there, better I've always wanted too-! Have fun & take lots of pictures for us to look at.
Lucky-!

It's all pretty much recreational diving there. The marine park rules don't allow diving past 130 ft.
The diving is excellent, and you will fall in love with the island. Who are you diving with? The standard drill is to go out to the pinnacles for your first dive (90-130 ft) and come in closer for the second (20-100 ft).
We were there for 1 week+ in DEcember, so ask away about anything you want to know.
Be prepared for the most exciting airplane ride of your life.
Hi Mike … I did some dives in Saba and they were all excellent. I will always remember Saba. The best dives, in my opinion, are the seamounts, also known as pinnacles. These are volcanic formations which rise up from the ocean floor. The three seamounts are Shark Shoal, Outer Limits and the Third Encounter. The Third Encounter has a section known as “Eye of the Needle”. All three of these dives are deep and they are rated advanced dives. The dive operator’s usually only do these dives as the first dive trip of the day, due to the depths.
My favorite dive was when we dropped in on the Third Encounter and we swam across the blue water to the Eye of the Needle. We then swam around this 50’ diameter seamount as we headed up. It’s covered with yellow tube sponges, orange elephant ear sponges, deepwater gorgonians, along with many types of coral and lots of fish. We also saw a large turtle on the way up.
The two dive operators on Saba are Saba Deep http://www.sabadeep.com/ and Sea Saba http://www.seasaba.com/ . The Saba Marine Park surrounds the entire island and covers the high water line down to 200’. The Saba Marine Park was established in 1987.
If you are flying into Saba, you will be amazed with the size of the mini runway at the airport. They use special planes to take off and land (Short Take-off and landing aircraft). This is an experience you will never forget!
If you like rum, you might try something called Saba Spice.
Have fun and enjoy your dives.

Mike,
Saba is a very majical place. Excuse me, hello all, Im' new to the list. have been lurking for quite a while. Brief bio. 35 years old, Diving since 85, full cave 95,and so on. Was living in Saba for a couple of years in the mid 90's running Saba Deep. You are in for a real treat, as everyone else has already said. The pinacales: Shark shoal, third encounter/eye of the needle, twilight zone, and outer limits are all very spectacular dives. while i was there, i spent as much time as possible surveying these places.Aside from shark shoal, all of the others are on the same seamount. See them all if possible. If the weather permits, I would suggest going to hole in the corner on the southeast side of the island. very cool place, but very seldom visited due to weather. While on land(this is the cave diving list) check out the sulfer mines in hells gate. there are 2 levels and the upper is really hot. I used to live right around the corner from these and never acclimated to the upper level. See Percy at the marine park for directions to this place. I've got tons more info, pm me for more questions. Have a great trip. Ted
