I am looking to buy a Dive Rite Trans Pac, and was wondering if i could get a few opinions on it, I saw that there were 2 models? the Dive Rite Transpac 2 and Transpac T3000, what is the difference? which is the newer model? i am wanting something that can switch between Singles, Doubles, and Sidemount (in the future), other wise i would probley go with the Trans Plate, does the Transpac have good support for doubles etc...? i have dove with it a few times, to test it out with my cousin.. it seemed comfortable, but i don't have enough dives on it to be sure... i have already made my choice on the wing ( Dive Rite Classic 60lbs lift), so thats not an issue, just wanted to know a little more about the harness....
Thanks

The TransPac II and the newer TPac only have cosmetic differences between them. The newer TPac has some small improvements, but at the end of the day both will do a fine job.
They will both do singles, doubles and sidemount... and many use them for breathers too. Offer plenty of support for doubles, but you do need to use stab plates when doing so.
Enjoy!

do you think a Medium would fit 155lbs, and 5' 9"? and also i saw on leisurepro.com that the Transpac was $199.95 and else where was $399.99 they claim its the 2008 model, which one is that the Transpac 2 or T3000, and what improvements are there on the new one compared to the other?

To me the LP version looks like the first version after DR moved from M/L sizing to separate M and L sizing. Def does not look like T3000 (I think T3000 has never had rubbers on the the shoulder pads?) I might be wrong but that's my first impression. Never paid attention to model names of the harness itself.
Anyhow, I am 5'10" and I would personally not fit into M. It would be too short for me. I have the last of the M/L:s that came out and it's just snuff for me length-wise, maxed out on the harness. And the M/L to my understanding is bigger than the current medium.
You of course might not have as long back as I have but I am about your size (my fat is on lower body, the harness length is not taken up by chest or gut), and I would go with L in the new sizing. I dive drysuit, if you are in thin wetsuit, you might be OK if your length is in legs. Hope this helps.

The transpac is adjustable one size in eac direction. So if it is a med. it will adjust to small and large. I am 5'10" @ 185. I have two larges and my first was medium. There is little difference in them as far as fit. They are very versatile when it comes to adjustments. The Meduim should be just right for you. I two as nomads. The wing on the nomad has to be fitted around the trans pac and does take a little while to mate the two. I use one on my O2ptima and one for cave diving. The third is use for double or singels. However, the nomad wing works great with a single tank. The average cost of the Trans pac from authorized dealer is about $325-$400. Leisure pro is not an authorized dealer and will not be able to handle warranty issues with your item. This is true of all items sold on LP. I own a dive shop and have found that all divers who buy for LP and have issues have to send the item back and wait for several weeks for a replacement. Not good if you are wanting to dive. Our policy is to not service any gear bought on line as it may void any chance of warranty you may have. We have actually remove students from training due to gear issues that came from LP. Just a thought to keep in mind. I dive all over the country and even though I own a shop, I still buy from the shops in the areas I dive. This is because I am dependant on them being there. So just imagine buying all you stuff online and then having no shops to get fills or the little items you need. Are you goona get fills on line too? Support your local shops, they are there for you since making money in a dive shop is not the reason most open them. Anyway, the transpac is a good choice and will be a reliable unit for you. Hard to go wrong with it.

The difference between the older Transpac II and the new Transpac was that the older version had removable shoulders that came in different sizes the new version has 2” webbing with removable pads in different sizes (Just like a Transplate harness).
The picture on LP appears to be the older Transpac that has the removable shoulders (you should call and confirm).
There is no size for the back the size only pertains to the shoulders (old version) or shoulder pads (new version)
I have both versions
The old version I bought was a Med and being 6’ 200lbs it was to small so I bought the XXL shoulders (to big) so I cut the padding off of the 2” webbing and used them (that made it just like my backplate and harness)
The new version came on my nomad and did not have the pads sewn to the 2” webbing (so I didn’t have to cut them off) I tossed the pads, they just get in the way.

so heres some of my research:
Transpac 2: http://static.phing.com/listings/1/10597/4057-q8iqrr_l.jpg
Transpac T3000: http://www.divebooty.com/prodimages/lg/4214.jpg
LP's Transpac: http://www.leisurepro.com/Image/Product/Full/DIVT3.jpg
Why do they all look different? are there 3 types?
Oh and this one too, not sure what model: http://www.scubadivingstore.co.uk/images/Transpac.jpg
i just plan on getting the Transpac, Classic wing, and Stablizing plates, good enough for double LP 108's Right???
again thanks for the advice,

Well all 4 fall into the two categories I explained earlier (removable shoulders or removable pads)
3 pics are the removable shoulders
The pic of the Transpac 2 is the oldest of the versions
The pics from LP and scubadivingstore are of the same version, this was an update before the revamp to the T3K. the sds pic has the optional weight pouches on the side.
The T3K is the newest version, the shoulder pads and the two hose retainers are modular and come in different sizes, on this version the harness has no size, one size fits all, the shoulder pads and cummerbund is what comes in different sizes
All of the Transpac 2 and newer have a removable back pad and removable sized cummerbund
If you remove the back pad shoulder pads and cummerbund they are basically just a soft backplate.
Here are two pics of my to tranpac’s
This is the Transpac 2 see how the shoulders are removable (I cut the padding and hose retainers off of the XXL shoulders to allow greater size change)

This is the T3k notice how the shoulder is just 2” webbing

oh....ok now i get it so 2 catagories, but names are Transpac 2, Transpac T3000, and Transpac T3000K..... alright, now another question is is it possible to hook up double 108's without the stabalizing plates? i can understand it being less stable, but is it possible? because i am going to have to hold off on getting the s-plates untill my next paycheck, i only have enough for the Transpac, and Classic wing at the moment so having said that, assumeing from what read here on a previous post, the size M will fit my body frame at 5' 10" and 157LBS.....

As for the size I wouldn’t worry about it.
T3K – doesn’t matter just toss the pads (there just a pain anyway)
BTW: My T3K came in as a Med, I didn’t want the pads anyway so I didn’t worry about it.
T2 – if the shoulders are to small just get 2 lengths of 2” webbing and Velcro, aqua seal the Velcro to one end of each of the webbings then take them to a local shoe repair and have them sew the Velcro on (I wouldn’t trust aqua sealing the Velcro, it’s just to keep it in the right place for the shoe store to sew it.)
Possible? Yes
Advisable? NO
Its not that they just stabilize they distribute the weight from the two eyelets to the harness, without them it is very possible that the doubles could rip out the eyelets.

ok, i currently do not use Double LP 108's in salt water (I use either Double LP 121's, Double AL 80's, single AL 80, and Single LP 121 (only when i am cave diving, i use my LP 108's), I can see how the Weight of Double LP 108's (or expecially Double LP 121's) could rip the eyelets, but can it Handle at least Double AL 80's (out of water or only if i put it on in water)??
also the Leisurepro website said that i would need to purchase a Steel, or AL backplate for it, (is that possible or is that considered plate stacking?) but my common sense had me ask if they ment to say the stabalizing plate, i assume they did.... but anyways feel free to read what they say about the transpac (http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/CategoryID_964/Context_954/Sort_Stock/DescSort_0/Filter_1%3d296/DIVT3.html?Hit=1)
and also I was wondering, is it possible to get an overfill on my Double LP 121's and/or my Double LP 108's to about 3300, or 3500, instead of a standard overfill to 2640??? (i think they hydro test it to about 5000psi)
Also i can understand that overfilling it to that preassure will decrease the life of the tank, but i am ok with it, since i plan on buying new tanks in a few years or so....
Thanks for everyones help, and advise it has helped a whole lot,

I just wouldn’t risk damaging a $400($200 on sale) item when a $15 item solves the issue.

Overfills are between you and the one filling the tank, make sure you have the correct burst disk for the pressure your filling to.

Well I recived my Transpac, and Stabalizer plates today....Had to trade a Cressi Sub Bac Jac, and Aqualung ABS Octo to get it though, which was ok since i have no use for that gear in caves.... anyways the size medium transpac fits perfectly....which i was shocked it fitted my 5' 10" 155 lbs body frame.. now all i need is to wait for the Dive Rite 10W HID canister light from my cousin to arrive....
thanks for all your help....
