Mark your calendars!
If you plan to attend one or all events please let me know at supplemental_machine@yahoo.com with the event you plan to attend
September 19Th I have arranged with the land owner to clean Church Sink. We will be working with the KEEP TALLAHASSEE LEON COUNTY BEAUTIFUL - KTLCB.COM group and if things work out right there will be press involved, food, and shirts from what I hear. If you haven't seen this sink before it is located beside a major road in Tallahassee and is in dire need of a cleanup. I think if we can get good numbers we can show Leon/Wakulla County we care as a diving community and that there is more to us than one small group. With the added benefit of the press we will also get coverage to the locals and have a documented case where divers are doing positive things where most of the time the media only writes about the accidents. Contact me for directions if you plan to go.
I am also working with Wakulla Springs Park Services Specialist Jacki Turner to get more involved with the park and its lands. She has given me dates for cleanup days and needs volunteers to help several planned road cleanups including: Sat Sept 26, McBride Slough (National Public Lands Day); Sat Oct 10, SR 267; and Sat Oct 24, US 319 & New Light Church/CJ Spears. These roads run right by our sinks in Tallahassee/Wakulla.
Another event to check out is this Friday Aug 28 I apologize about being late posting this one but If you can make it please do. I am trying to show them that there are many divers out there that have the experience and safety record as other groups out there and that many are located right in town. I think that the more we get involved with them and show them who we are and get to know on a personal level we can then be respected. This is the info I received about the event:
"Friday, August 28th. Friends of Wakulla Springs Annual Beach Picnic.
Social begins at 6:30 PM at the waterfront, with dinner at 7:00 PM. This picnic is a great time to meet new folks and join the Friends of Wakulla Springs or to bring prospective members and get them to join the Friends at that time. Enjoy a unique evening in the twilight of the park and a complimentary boat ride down the Wakulla to observe the animals as dusk settles on this wild river.
Then, relax and enjoy the music of Grant Peeples from 9:00 PM till 10:00PM.
This is a pot-luck so please bring your favorite dish and serving utensils.
To learn more about the Friends, please visit http://www.wakullasprings.org/projects.html
You don't have to live here, or even volunteer to be a Friend of Wakulla Springs. But if you are here, come and join us for this special evening!!! Hope to see you there. "
Again please let me know if you plan to attend
Thanks!!
