I'm going to be making my first Giant Stumble boat-entry with a Cannister light Sunday (I've done my share at P1 and O'Grove, but never with a Cannister)...The light is a DR with a right-side belt-mount Wreck Cannister...
Anything I should be aware of?
BTW, My Dive Club, FishTales, is running a trip to Crystal River / Kings Spring on Sunday 2/27 ... if anyone is interested in particulars, please PM me...

Make sure it's not clipped off to the boat :o

I have seen that entry used up to 10' in full cave gear, cannister and all. I would be sure my waist belt was snug :-)

I jump off the Spree and the Fling in the Gulf of Mexico- Texas Flower Gardens. The boats are converted crew boats and are a blast. The bad news is the deck to the water is a good 10ft. If we get three foot rollers coming in; it gets even more exciting.
I usually prep my HID, mount the canister on my BC, and turn on the light for a few minutes. I like to make sure that I did not forget to plug in the light head (not like any of us have never done this :-D .)
When I jump my HID is off and my safety (small light) is on with my tank marker. I hold the light head against me or I put my right hand under my BC strap and grab the lighthead on the other side. I try to keep the impact shock to a minimum. After I hit the water I turn on the light (the canister lid is facing down) and give my ok.
If you are not going to hold it please clip it off to a d-ring. I have been hit in face with things that were not clipped off and just hanging on my chest.
The boat crew hands down all Light Cannon Lights and Camera systems on a rope.
Secondary thoughts-
Keep your feet together when jumping.
Watch out for boat swinging on it mooring- I was floated over last summer when the current shifted. I looked up to give the OK and my hand hit the hull.
I jump with a little air in my BC to surface and signal but not a lot incase I have to submerge and get away from the boat.
Outside of that have fun.

ROTFLMAO
OTOH, IF one went off over-weighted, gas off, and BC empty, it WOULD stop the plummet...<g>

Actually - NO! It doesn't.
You get separation in the second stage and the hose, alot of foam and loose whip until you vent the lines.
Been there too. Do not attach the second stage to the railing to work on it or use as an attachment point.
You guys been digging in my dive locker or what?

Here's a pic of my friend doing it w/a canister light - you'll like this one :)
The light survived - be sure to lock your tabs on your canister tho...

Along the lines of rt side belt-cannister mount, are there ANY likely uses for the right-side waist D-ring?

How about carrying a sidemount tank? ; )

I use the right waist D-ring for my primary lift bag when I'm carrying 2 stage bottles...

I go in all the time in the ocean with a "cave style" rig, including cannister light.
No problem - just make sure nothing is hung up on the boat before you go.

Norm,
Did away with the right side waist D-ring a long time ago. Found no purpose for it. If it is far enough back to allow for proper light canister placement, it is impossible to get to to clip in or unclip anything. Most people I know have removed them altogether. I have used a bungee loop in it's place for temporary attachment of gear on ocean dives.
Just my thoughts,
Kenny P.
