Don't try to use the bungees like they were are used on doubles. Remove the elastic, and use it to wrap the Rec wing across your chest, like the wing was a jacket. That way the wing lifts the tanks, not the back of the TransPac.
Here is a picture of what I use. It isn't a Rec wing, but the thin webbing is holding the wing around me, like the elastic would on the Rec wing.

Okay thatll get me headed in a better direction. You have 3 straps across your chest. Is there a wing bungee anywhere? I only have 2 tabs on my wing so maybe 2 straps would be ok? This is a work in progress but Im up for it with an iffy knee I cant make worse carrying 100 lb doubles around.

Mine is a homemade harness. I've secured it to the harness at the shoulders and waist and used the bungees to secure it along the rear of the shoulder straps. To make it fit i turned the bottom of the wing in on itself, this obstructs the lower dump but the parachute dump i find is enough. No problem with trapped air that i've noticed.

That top "strap" is part of the harness, like the chest strap on a TransPac. In that picture, I am using an older style DiveRite bungee. It has regular webbing on the top grommet and flat elastic (bungee) that goes over the tank valves. I have switched to a double run of regular bungee.
Are you coming to the social? I can show it to you.

FW From the pics Im understanding your consept of connecting the 4 side tabs with straps and chest buckles, holding the wing down so would 2 booksrews be enough to hold the wing on the backplate? I do not have a transpack.

I wouldn't waste my time trying to make a sidemount rig out of a metal backplate. I have an old TransPac 1 you can have. It will be much better.

Ok Im coming! I hope I can get some tips for what Im wanting to accomplish. I will probably have the wife and the kayaks and hit the river since my tanks are being hydo'd. Ive been unemployed for 3 months with the housing crash and start a new job tomorrow. Forrest shoot me a time you may be there and Ill see you and everybody else. Im thinking before noon?
The social starts around 11am. I am going to try to get a dive in before then.
Forrest, I notice in your second pic that you're using a Classic wing. I've got mine rigged in a similar way but have you found a way to stop the "shoulder" part of the wing, (i.e. that bit between the shoulder strap and the bungee), from taco'ing up?
FWIW, instead of the lowest strap I have the bottom corners of the wing clipped with maillons to belt-slides on my SM harness waistbelt. This works well.

I'll be at the social too.... (note to self.. bring charcoal). I gladly show you how I rigged up my rec wing but let's me honest Forrest is the experienced one here. I'm staying at the dive outpost Friday/Sat night.

That wing has thin webbing loops sewn into it. The top part is better now that I have a different bungee. I will try to get pics taken at the social.

Finally got in the water today trying out sidemount and trimmed right out. Bottles rode on my side good with the DR buttplate. Thanks Forrest for the Transpac. I started out stowing the spg's under bands with the long hoses and decided to change to 2 6 inch hoses,[lollypops]. Light is fine on right waistbelt but put 7ft hose on left side under bands, bungeed short hose on the right around neck, need a 90 degree on it. Jump spools and backup lights in thigh pouch, safety on centerbutt d-ring. All in all it went well with the advice from others, thanks.
I am glad it worked out :-)
