The above is a link to information for a 3 day cave rescue course, and would be a valuable event to attend for those of us who have little or no cave rescue training-!

Cave rescue/recovery operations are no joke...

I think that anyone not trained and experienced in full cave plus gas mixing/management not to mention more should take no part.

Once you you are trained and experienced then by all means seek to take a recue /recovery course. Just don't do it for the wrong reasons. This is not something for a glory hound or to try and get your name out there.

I have been trained and involve in many rescue/recovery operation on land, high angle and sea. But training is not the end. Even someone trained should never attempt rescue/recovery unless accompanied by an experienced rescuer.

Leave the victim/individual in place and go get help.... if you don't, you too may become a statistic.

From the description this course is oriented to the typical county/municipal rescue squad that has to perform in a variety of situations. Cave(NOT cave diving), high angle, swift water etc..

If you want a cave rescue (again NOT cave diving) course, the NCRC week long course is an excellent way to drive home the fact you really don't want to get hurt in a cave. These are usually scheduled to be the week before the annual NSS convention. There are also typically level I and II courses offered at different times in each region.

Having chatted briefly with the organizer of this event I have learned that there will be something of value there for anyone interested in caving. It will focus on the continuing education certs that those who do this regularly require, but that is no reason for the average caver not to attend. The nice part of this is that it is only an hour away from me now, so I plan on being there 8)

This class is designed to be for fire depts, rescue squads, and ambulance personal. This is being put on by Eastern KY Univ. in Ricmond KY. This class is for DRY cave rescue. Don't take that as you can't get anything out of it. You can, just know what you are attending.
Let me also say that I am part of a dive team and if I have to put my dive gear on, IT IS A RECOVERY. The public dosen't like to hear that so they throw in rescue to make it sound good.
As for classes, any chance you get to take a class from an instructor and learn something new. Take it. Take what you can from the class and use it wisely within your training and ability. Any time I get the chance to learn from someone more knowledgeable than I, I jump at it. Just my thoughts and ramblings. :smt033

The local grotto, the FSS has NCRA instructors come down and at least once a year they put on a Introduction to Cave Rescue class. (Dry Caves) I took the first one they had here. It was welll worth the time but you should have some dry caving experience prior to taking the class. You don't need to go to Kentucky. Three of the local parmedics were in my class and now all three are cavers. It makes me feel good to see that some of the local cave divers are taking an interest in dry caving. I have been well treated by the local grotto and would encourage divers to 'see the other side' of caves.

Thanks, i wasnt aware of that. Myself truthfully,.. I have no ambition to pull someone out. When the caves, and my diving become a regular thing, such as walking..Maybe. The divers that do it, have my great deal of respect, to offer the family some closure (not spelled correct). Dont take me wrong, i will help anyone, that needs it. If i were to take it, as my rescue a couple years ago, i know first hand how it can defently help. it may help in the same manner??? Awareness?

the instructer side of it, Very true. If i am able to pick up on something, that is being taught my butt is there. Its better for me to learn that way, then to go thru what Sheck and them went thru. Knowledge from exp, is gold. ( i guess now adays its, titanium..hehehee)
