I am trying to find a source for "gold line". I was told that it is 1/8" Kermantle but I can't find it on the Net by that name - I find Dacron Cord in that size and color but no real quantities. I am not even sure that that would be the right material...Does anybody have a good source for what we generally call "gold Line". Much appreciated.

Check out the gear equipment section with the thread titled parachute cord.

The goldline the NSS CDS donates to use on sites is from PMI.

Yes, it is called 4mm accessory cord in their catalog. The solid gold is a special order, though. If you are relining a cave, contact the NSS-CDS, and they might donate line.

Thanks for the great responses and links - much appreciated.

I have had people PM me about buying goldline. The NSS-CDS is considering selling goldline in the web store. What length would people be interested in buying, if it was available?
It comes in spools a little over 1200', but that is probably too much for most people.

If I put it on my primary reel, would that mess people up? :smt102

1200' of goldline doesn't reach 1200' of cave... so I'd say thats a pretty good amount to sell(isn't it more like 100 meters per spool? Little more than 300' which translates to far less cave). Maybe sell it in 10' increments to people who just want to cut it up to use for rigging equipment and stuff too?
I just hope people don't start thinking that its necessary to have goldline in every cave...

Check over on TDS - Seems like Steve Gerrard has got his hands on a lot of gold line recently.
We have some 100 meter, but mostly 400 meter spools now.

Problem I see with it FW is some might put it on a primairy reel or a jump and use it, Would be worried others that have gone through training so fast might not notice it and wind up going the wrong way. I think it shoudl still be available for placing in caves as a PRIMAIRY line only and not kept on a anything. I do carry a amount on a spool to use as repairs since in my class I was taught that I am responsable for the line. I should never tell anyone that it is broke I should fix it and then let others know the damage and if they would like to asses it then they can.
It should be used only in caves and placed by compatent people who use that cave and know how to install it properly.
As a Midwest CDS Saftey Officer, I do not like this idea.

My post earlier today was a joke - I can't believe someone would actually do it. But then again... maybe somebody would.

April Fools was last month. Surely you can't be serious.

He is serious, and stop calling him Shirley.
