The Great Scooter Race

Date: Saturday, 5 July 2003 (for the main gathering)
Location: Jim Hollis’s River Rendezvous

Excitement was in the air at the "First Great Scooter Race"; on the 5th of July, 2003. The first place finisher was Cristian Pittaro with his "Fast Stock Gavin"; from Argentina. Now the big question is who will bring home the trophy next year?

The second place finisher was Ron White with his Custom Scooter. Talk about being impressed, the skill, the talent, and the hard work that went into making his sleek scooter.

And then we had the entry of Guy Morin with his "Monster", Vector scooter. My God, I have never seen a scooter that big in my life. He claimed that he had to default, since the length of the race course was not long enough or wide enough for the monster to maneuver. Kind of makes you wonder if it wasn't lack of confidence on Guy's part...

I also wanted to thank Scott Isberner who assisted me as a safety diver for the race.

Next year I hope that we will have more contestants, and the condition of the "track" will be more favorable and not so tannic. Of course a caver should be used to a little or no vis every once in a while.

So folks, you have a year to get ready for the 2nd Annual Great Scooter Race. I can guarantee that next year will be even more spectacular and challenging, with champagne spraying in the air and maybe a beautiful "Hooter Girl" (or Bubba if a female winner...) to hand over the trophy to the winner!
